Yes, we are absolutely the chip leader. Our economy is 10 times the size of Russia’s, we own Europe through Poland and several other countries are now fast tracking their membership, we have something like 800 military bases all over the world, multiple fleets of super carriers, total domination of international trade, a massive technological and material advantage, vastly better trained military, and so on and so forth.

Yes, Ukraine is a small pot in the grand scheme of things. You want to use poker analogies? This is like going all in over the blinds with Russia in position behind you. It’s totally stupid. It’s why no one with a clue thinks it’s worth even considering.

You obviously are no poker player…

this isnt about logic or intelligence on your side of the argument. Its politics and cowardice

Yeah, I’m sure every military commander we have is a coward but you, the guy who refuses to actually fight this supposedly just war, is chalk full of bravery.

I have as much military experience as you. The difference is I’m not demanding other people go fight in a war that has a chance to spark a nuclear Armageddon.

No one with a clue is saying we should take direct action. Sorry, but sane people still exist.

This is your daily reminder that Putin's Russia did not invade Ukraine while Donald Trump and George W. Bush were president, but did invade while Barack Obama and Joe Biden were.

It's also your daily reminder that if you have a problem with what I posted, your political views are very much aligned with those of Ben Simmons.

Who was President when Georgia was invaded?

I imagine Putin did not invade Ukraine during the Bush or Trump administrations because he did not perceive weakness on the part of the U.S.  But the facts do speak for themselves, do they not?

Not with the Ben Simmons twist

Georgia…

He’s right.

Of course the Russians wouldn’t have been able to win without material support from the US, but the Russians did the overwhelming majority of the fighting. That’s where the war was won. If Hitler hadn’t have been so stupid to invade Russia, there wasn’t much the US and Britain could have done to stop him.

The US and western allies faced Germany’s weakest troops and generals. The bulk of their army, especially the veterans, were on the Eastern front.

This is an incredibly callous observation of the battle orders of the Western European theater, as well as strategy.

There were plenty of capable units and commanders in that theater. Not to mention the British and Americans had previously fought in North Africa and Italy. Of the three fronts in mainland Europe, the British and Americans were engaging in two of them. And the Americans were also making advances in the pacific theater, while the Soviets couldn’t do ish about Japan and the NSDAPs at the same time. Also, American and British bombing were causing havoc to the German industrial centers, while the Soviets could not project themselves in a strategic manner.

No, they wouldn’t have. They didn’t have enough troops or equipment or food and they invaded during the winter. Same problem Napoleon had.

Operation Barbarossa started in June.

Why challenge the annexation of the Sudetenland and spark another Great War?

Your knowledge and analysis of politics on both a national and international scale is very good, but you lack in strategic thinking from a military point of view.

The goal of Putin’s military actions is to either be a thorn for the US (Syria), or to take pressure off of him domestically (Chechnya, Ukraine). To say that Putin has strategic objectives in Ukraine is obtuse. He has the same problem Yeltsin did: he can’t step down without fear of prosecution for corruption, and the Yeltsin solution was Putin as a successor (his help for the St. Petersburg mayor and covering for him led to his ascent), however Putin has no similar option for his successor. Also Putin has no desire for thermonuclear war, as one would result in him not being one of the richest men in the world.

craps gonna get real very soon! From a good source, I have that Poland is preparing their missile defense base and anti nuke systems for god knows what.

The paired that strategy with "opening a 3rd corridor" that lead to Russia. They're trying to funnel civilians to Russian forces...

Ruble dropping a ton now. 139 RUB / 1 USD.

Russian stock market still closed. I wonder if it will ever open again.

Bloomberg thinks 80% chance Russia defaults.

Edit: Missed this yesterday: Moody's cuts Russia rating to Ca on rise in default risk

"The likely recovery for investors will be in line with the historical average, commensurate with a Ca rating," it said. "At the Ca rating level, the recovery expectations are at 35 to 65% (of face value)."

Moody's and its ratings agency peers Fitch and S%P Global had scored Russia at investment-grade levels of Baa3/BBB as recently as March 1. All three have since cut their scores several notches, putting the sovereign deep into "junk" territory.

Ever since Russia has been frozen out financially, I haven't seen any new right wing material. Just same thing over and over again. Coincidence?

I guess that guy drinking to the death of the stock market knew what he was talking about

So Russia is trying to funnel Ukrainians fleeing to ... Russia and Belarus.

Yes, they want people fleeing Putin's war to flee to the nations invading Ukraine.

Emotional exaggerations. Every conflict could do this. Are you now an isolationist? You are hardly part of a select few with a clue. You are a part of the fearful mob. Anyone with a clue knows the risk is not decreased by avoidance. In fact it probably goes up when putin has time to reorganize and resupply.

all this cowardice does is enable more aggression, even at the poker table. The only intelligent reason to invite it is to execute a trap.

Or do you think Putin will suddenly be satisfied if he has Ukrain? Has he ever been more vulnerable than now?

kind of doubt it. but we'll probably find out soon enough.
