Oil is only part of the picture. Natural gas is big.

MedWest would help but probably is only part of the solution.

It's mainly driven by a desire to see the world burn so they can blame it on Biden.

I wish I was kidding.

By far the best aspect of that quote is that it came after a week of trumpbots lauding how supposedly savvy he was on foreign policy. I truly love how these idiots are constantly backed into the unenviable corner of having to defend stuff like that from the dumbest president in our nation's history.

How am I wrong?

Politically at least here in the states the drumbeat from the right has been "Biden is seen as weak, our enemies will take advantage". We've heard similar about western liberalism in general.

Those most likely to see China trying to take advantage of this situation and invade Taiwan tend to be those who view our response as weak. This is, by and large, right wing hawks, some of whom would love to be proven correct.

You already have a bunch of Trumplicans here who blame Biden for the invasion of Ukraine. I hardly think it's crazy to be cynical about this and recognize that many right wingers are queefing about China invading Taiwan because "we're weak."

Ukraine Expert Alexander Vindman Humiliates Marjorie Taylor Greene With Brutal Fact Check

David Moye

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) attempted to blame Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Joe Biden Monday, only to be brutally humiliated by an acknowledged expert on the situation: Retired Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman.

It started when the controversial lawmaker posted a tweet on Sunday claiming "Biden’s poor decision making leading up to [Russian President Vladimir] Putin declaring war on Ukraine.”

I don't think it has to be an all or nothing proposition. I'd imagine market rules still apply. If there's less demand then there's downward pressure on prices. Having to sell oil/NG commodities at a steep discount is still deep wound to the Russian economy.

As I recall, they had the launch sites and delivery systems in Cuba but not the warheads, which were allegedly headed for Cuba when Kennedy imposed the "quarantine." They were effectively prevented from becoming nuclear-capable.

Incorrect.  By the time the crisis began, the Soviets already had what was believed to be 158 warheads in Cuba.

They're not dumb enough to ask, and we would never grant it.

I'm not sure why everyone keeps trying to link Ukraine and Taiwan. This dance among us, China and Taiwan has been going on since 1979, and it never changes. None of China's recent activity is really unprecedented.

It's a tenuous prediction at best. Maybe there would be some posturing in a variety of a forms, but an invasion is still highly unlikely. China is winning in their eyes, and their main regional rival is now on the ropes, why upset the apple cart now? I think they're mostly content to use the threat of invasion to induce restraint by the Weest. Like everything else these days, one expert suggests the possibility of such a thing, then all the self-obsessed Twitter dopes and media networks get ahold of it, and because they're too lazy and/or ignorant to do their own analysis, just parrot someone else's opinion as pre-ordained fact in order to sound like they know things. The Taiwan question is one that deserves consideration here, but the conclusions that one would draw in this scenario are anything but obvious.

Better get to kissing Maduro's ass, Blinkin. Shortages are going to get worse. Maybe send Guido down there to iron things out.

F it, Iran, go ahead and develop all the nukes you need. We just need that oil on the market ASAP!

Maybe you should've had these supplications in place before you blew up the energy markets.

That seems really high, I thought the number of warheads in Cuba when the ish hit the fan was 40 or so?

And this is supposed to be one of the "serious" people in the party. Outside of the hundreds of Trump quotes, this might possibly be one of the dumbest things I've heard a politician say.

I watched the entire interview. She actually said that were she president, she wouldn't engage in any form of diplomacy with China what so ever. She came off as a stone cold moron who knows nothing about how international affairs actually work.

He was on the MTP yesterday. Seems fairly obvious that he's eying a presidential run.

Bad Idea, I'm sure Donald J. Trump, super Genius, would consider having the USA invade Cuba and install a Pro Democracy President in response to the Ruski invasion of Ukraine. Trump wants to be on the same level as Russia and the evil Dictator Putin.

Depends on if he's referring to some of the "tactical nukes" that could be deployed on the battlefield rather than launched hundreds of miles away. Different warheads, with different yields, mounted on delivery devices with different ranges.

May have been posted already but not going through 20+ pages

No where in there is a motive to want to watch the world burn…

think of it this way: are people clutching their pearls and crying nuclear war because they dont want to be wring when our airstrikes produce nothing of the sort?

Very long tweet thread but this part stuck out. 15 years. WOW

I looked this back up. They had SAM delivery systems in place to launch 20 missiles, but at the time, it was not believed that they had warheads in Cuba. The quarantine was intended to prevent the delivery of atomic warheads to Cuba and leave no doubts about U.S. commitment to the Monroe Doctrine. Khrushchev later admitted that Russia did, indeed, have a stockpile of nukes in Cuba (although the reliability of the delivery system was highly questionable at the time).

In some ways, the power plays undertaken by both sides in 1962 parallel what's going on with Ukraine today. Khruschev probably never intended to nuke the U.S; the ploy was mainly intended to put the Americans on edge and calculate the limits of U.S. military doctrine. Kennedy's move to enforce the Monroe Doctrine and demonstrate a clear intention to use the American military to precent further incursions by Russia into the Western Hemisphere. This can be seen as at least superficially analogous to the current crisis, with Putin blustering and testing the American commitment to NATO, and the U.S. responding with measures indicating that it fully intends to support it. These were both "F around and find out" scenarios.

The rear guard ass kissing tour kicks into high gear.

It was a cliché I used as hyperbole. So sue me.

Yes there are some who would cut off their noses to spite their face. Another cliché that shows such things are common enough to earn a cliché.

What is the difference between Team Putin, Hitler Youth, and TPUSA?

I don't know either.
