Plus, there's money to be made selling a government big vehicles, but not as much money to be made maintaining them.

I get that. But this is Putin and he has his aspersions of European dominance so why would he not be building up his military not letting it crumble?

inguess my whole line of questioning is because I don’t think the Russians havent really begun to impose their will on Ukrainians yet.

I mean, it's not that hard to understand. Russia is a land of corruption. They allocated plenty of money to upgrading the military...and then the oligarchs bought yachts instead. So Putin thinks he has this updated army, when in reality all the money was embezzled.

It just sounds a bit wishful thinking and propaganda but wouldn’t surprise me

I'm not sure this is true. Seems to me that groups of people are pretty eager to kill other groups of people when they see an advantage to be gained.

Sure, people say all kinds of stuff. Thousands showed up to overthrow the election, but it seems only a few dozen were ready for violence.

One of the FIRST things to go in EVERY military budget cut I had to suffer through, was training.

Training, especially good training, is very expensive.

Seems to be the same case with lots of things so doesn't surprise me one bit that you had that experience.

The US does it all the time. Then the course gets reversed when it is shown how expensive it is to have untrained people using expensive equipment.

Or worse, killing themselves and other training investments, in the process.

So you're not one of the people that think he hasn't used his full army?

He absolutely hasn't. We know this for a fact. People are confusing headlines that are referring to the mobilized forces with their entire military capacity. That doesn't change the fact that they've fallen on their face hard with what they have deployed so far.

Anyone thinking that is very foolish.

I agree 100%

btw - Serious discussions about joining NATO are actually happening in both Finland and Sweden.  Seems like a 50/50 shot but there has never been any real discussion previously.

Putin has no desire for nuclear war, as one would result in him not being a billionaire anymore.

His biggest fear is turning into Gaddafi.

Sadam more like it. Russians love Putin, his threats are external not internal. Gee, what’s the trump card he has against a US invasion?

Not sure I can follow the triple negative, but my point is that his army isn't nearly as advanced or modern as he was lead to believe because of the theft.

He's committed all the troops that were mobilized to Ukraine, not his entire army.

I guess that's what happens with war and social media

In a bizarre speech, former president Donald Trump suggested a novel solution to the crisis in Ukraine: putting Chinese flags on US fighter jets and sending them to "bomb the s*** out of Russia.”

The former president proposed the literal false-flag attack during a Republican fundraiser in New Orleans on Saturday, where he spoke for 84 minutes.

"And then we say, China did it, we didn’t do it, China did it, and then they start fighting with each other and we sit back and watch,” Mr Trump told a crowd of giggling GOP donors

Yep. The former POTUS is such an idiot, he actually thinks you can do this, and nobody would notice the planes are US, because of the flag on it.

I'm not a lunatic.

Most of the idiots who entered the capitol were not throwing punches at police, or worse. Most were just misled citizens, who were going to the Capitol, thinking the President was on their side, and was going to go with them.

That said, they were there to throw out your vote and mine. Everyone's votes. As such, they can all go to jail. Stupid isn't an excuse. Gullible isn't an excuse.

They committed crimes and tried to do worse.

Fair enough. As I've always said, I hope anyone guilty of actual crimes is prosecuted and punished. The vast majority of people there were standing outside protesting. Anyone who actually breached doors, windows, assaulted anyone, etc. are dbags and deserve jail time.

Just ask Ukraine about giving up those nukes in 94.
