You want weird:

Weird is one in three Americans being willing to risk nuclear destruction over a conflict in Eastern Europe. That's weird to me.

Any move we make is technically "risking nuclear war".  I realize the far right doesn't see creeping fascist authoritarianism as a bad thing, but most of Americans do.

If Russia comes out of this with no land bridge to Crimea and with Zelensky still in power...

I mean... what will they have gotten for their efforts? Pre-war status quo, a global embarrassment of an attempted invasion, and a cratered economy?

I can't see Putin agreeing to this.

If they agree to that I'll bet the farm that once Russia gets its s*** together they will just try again.

Meh, read the thread. With the Ukraine prop being shared in here it sounded like Russia was going to be sent packing any moment. Instead, Ukraine is literally begging Biden to start WW3 on its behalf.

"Literally" nothing being shared here has suggested Russia will be sent packing.

At most some are starting to think Russia might not win. But the baseline has always been "Russia will win eventually, even if they level the country to do it"

Yeah I could imagine a scenario where Russia temporarily withdraws, licks its wounds, learns some lessons, and goes right back at it a a few years later.

If that's the case, then Ukraine and the west better plan on turning their back on any agreement made with Russia and immediately allowing Ukraine into NATO.

which is why I don't know that Ukraine can or should entertain any ceasefire deal that would prevent them from entering into a defensive alliance, even if it's not NATO. Poland, the Baltics, and Ukraine for example.

I have no idea if it would make sense, but maybe even having a different class of membership in NATO where maybe Ukraine doesn't get any bases manned by non-Ukrainian personnel, a "lite" version of NATO membership that merely promises if Ukraine is attacked NATO allies will come to its aide. No joint exercises with NATO, no contribution of forces directly, merely a statement to Russia that says "if you try to invade we WILL get involved"

'We all will be judged.' Russian prisoners of war voice disquiet, shame over war in Ukraine

Kyiv, Ukraine (CNN)"I want to tell our commander-in-chief to stop terror acts in Ukraine because when we come back we'll rise against him."

Russian President Vladimir Putin "has given orders to commit crimes. It's not just to demilitarize Ukraine or defeat the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but now cities of peaceful civilians are being destroyed."
"The crimes that we committed; we all will be judged."

These are the voices of Russian prisoners of war now held by Ukraine.

Exclusive: Secret CIA training program in Ukraine helped Kyiv prepare for Russian invasion

https://news.yahoo.com/exclusive-secret-cia-training-program-in-ukraine-helped-kyiv-prepare-for-russian-invasion-090052743.html

As part of the Ukraine-based training program, CIA paramilitaries taught their Ukrainian counterparts sniper techniques; how to operate U.S.-supplied Javelin anti-tank missiles and other equipment; how to evade digital tracking the Russians used to pinpoint the location of Ukrainian troops, which had left them vulnerable to attacks by artillery; how to use covert communications tools; and how to remain undetected in the war zone while also drawing out Russian and insurgent forces from their positions, among other skills, according to former officials.
