The Russians shifted to artillery so the Ukrainians need something that will be able to hit targets up to 20 miles away. I also think Ukraine took a helluva bite out of Russia's tank inventory. For sure Russia has a lot more. But they're not stupid enough to keep throwing more armor into a killzone. Russian conscripts on the other hand come cheap apparently. 4 minutes ago, DrPhilly said: You knew the period and comma were flipped when writing numbers in Swedish? That’s impressive. March 24, 20223 yr I thought that Russian armies had a week left of fight in them until they were toast, but it looks like it’s come sooner. I don’t see Putin pulling back and I don’t see Ukraine giving what Putin wants. An EU membership for Ukraine is all but a done deal when this is all done, and Ukraine needs it because a membership will allow EU dollars to come flowing in to help rebuild. I think you’re going to see another week of Ukraine making some advances in the North, but I think by then Russia will start to throw new and fresh units into battle. When you look at the numbers of troops that Russia threw into battle, the lowest number of troops were on the Kiev axis. Most were on the Eastern front. The smartest move would have been to have two major axis of advance, both going down the east side of the Dnieper River, and then throw a third axis in from the East. But they did it dumb. Keep in mind in 2003 there were about four times as many coalition troops committed to seize an area the size of California versus one the size of Texas, and during the invasion we pretty much bypassed major cities in a rush to get to Baghdad. Pretty sure what we’re going to see now is something more akin to the Italian front in WWII.

It must be tough to realize the narrative you’ve chosen to completely soaked in as the truth turns out to be a complete lie of propaganda. You truly believe a power hungry maniacal fascist would elevate "you” to a place in life that you are unable to achieve on your own merits. You hope your status in the world will just be handed to you if you swear your allegiance to a person who would 100% sacrifice your life to gain more for himself. We have that here in America too… we call them trumpbots.

Sicily wasn’t bad, but when it came to the main land we found out the hard way that fighting in the mountains sucks.

I actually forgot how long that theatre drug on. I think of most of the action in '43-'44, but it took a little while until they strung up Mussolini.
March 24, 20223 yr Did the U.S. put a lot of resources into Italy? I mean the plan was always to land on the French coast, whether it be Normandy, Brittany, or somewhere else. North Africa / Italy was a sideshow.

Quote It is estimated that between September 1943 and April 1945, 60,000–70,000 Allied and 38,805–150,660 German soldiers died in Italy.[30][nb 1] The number of Allied casualties was about 330,000 and the German figure (excluding those involved in the final surrender) was over 330,000.[30][nb 2] Fascist Italy, prior to its collapse, suffered about 200,000 casualties, mostly POWs taken in the invasion of Sicily, including more than 40,000 killed or missing.[32] Over 150,000 Italian civilians died, as did 35,828 anti-fascist partisans and some 35,000 troops of the Italian Social Republic.[33][34][35] On the Western Front of World War II, Italy was the most costly campaign in terms of casualties suffered by infantry forces of both sides, during bitter small-scale fighting around strongpoints at the Winter Line, the Anzio beachhead and the Gothic Line.[36] That is one F of a side show.

March 24, 20223 yr My grandfather was deployed in Italy in WW2. Watched his best friend blown up next to him. That's all we know and that's only cause he let it slip to my grandmother one day. He absolutely refused to talk about it. Fed him up big time.
