A slightly different take on Pop Pop’s ‘’gaffe’’ than I’ve read, ultimately, unsurprisingly, coming to the same conclusion as many others. Yeah, what he said was undiplomatic, impolitic, but it’s exactly what most are probably thinking. If de-escalation is the goal, it was probably not helpful. Not sure de-escalation is a realistic goal though, so I’m not sure it was all that damaging to that end. Where the statement was harmful though, imho, was in its desperation. ‘’For God’s sake’’ reveals a frustration, a desperation, that is undoubtedly music to Putin’s ears. It reeks of Pop Pop helplessly pleading for help because current strategies aren’t having the desired effect.

Yah, unlike the genius who is willing to undergo food insecurity for the sake of Ukraine because that is what he is told to think.

If I'm correct about the quote you're referring to, you know he was talking about food shortages in Ukraine/Europe, right?

Trumpbots lapping up the propaganda. What else is new?

Putin ‘has already declared May 9 as the "END” of the war in Ukraine - matching the SAME date as Russia defeated the NSDAPs in WW2’, Kyiv official claims

  • The Armed Forces of Ukraine claimed Putin is planning to end the war on May 9
  • Russia holds an extravagant victory day parade in Moscow every year on May 9
  • It marks the day NSDAP Germany surrendered, bringing World War Two to an end
  • Armed Forces also claimed medical institutions are filled by Russian servicemen

I guess you like the kind of work where the project completion is not as important as announcements about the project.

So I guess if Biden was actually in control of this country, we would have been bombing the crap out of Russia by now. But obviously hes too senile to be in control of anything, including his own bowel movements.

It's a made up scenario.  But I can see that happening.  China DGAF about their own plebs, let alone non-Chinese,  so they are happy to do business with Russia.  India is A-OK doing business with Russia as well. All three would reject any UN war crimes if it would be a hit to their own economy. Putin would just get a new set of cronies, to replace any deemed, disloyal.   Large sections of Europe won't be able to quit russian oil for a LONG time.

If you pull that one single phrase out of the speech AND you wanted to hate it before it ever started, then I can see why you think that.

I listened to the speech as it was broadcast and there was nothing desperate about it.

If you leave all the media spin (from both sides) and political backtracking out of forming your opinion, Biden did nothing more than make the most obvious statements since Russia invaded Ukraine.

Putin is liar and can’t be trusted.

The west is more unified because of it.

The sanctions are and will continue to cripple the Russian economy.

Neither the Russian or Ukrainian people deserve it.

Putin will never do what will be required to have sanctions lifted, so he’s got to go.

It is a completely made up scenario. I don’t see Putin leaving Ukraine. Rebuilding what he destroyed should also be a requirement before lifting sanctions, which he also won’t do.

Pretty much a universal opinion held by anyone not defending their vote ....

I don't personally care. I was perfectly fine with my choice for global **** talker.

"I wouldn't use this type of wording because I continue to hold discussions with President Putin," Macron said Sunday during an appearance on France 3 TV channel. "We want to stop the war that Russia has launched in Ukraine without escalation -- that's the objective."

Agreed.  But with absolute power in Russia and the ability to freely trade with China and India, along with still getting $$$ for Oil from a good chunk of Europe,  Putin can live out his days without too much concern.  No binding UN resolution(Russia and China would veto, India veto or abstain), no one invading HIS country, no internal threat as they would all be purged.

The heat would definitely increase for the global companies that do stay in Russia.   But if they get one more penny by staying in Russia than leaving, they'll do it.  I mean, look at the US  - We gutted the working/middle class by shipping all the manufacturing jobs overseas, to get those couple of pennies per widget to the shareholders. That's why they call it the Almighty Dollar

Gotta be honest. If the French are against it, I may need to rethink my position here saying it was a mistake. ALWAYS do the opposite of what the French think during war.
