March 27, 20223 yr A slightly different take on Pop Pop’s ‘’gaffe’’ than I’ve read, ultimately, unsurprisingly, coming to the same conclusion as many others. Yeah, what he said was undiplomatic, impolitic, but it’s exactly what most are probably thinking. If de-escalation is the goal, it was probably not helpful. Not sure de-escalation is a realistic goal though, so I’m not sure it was all that damaging to that end. Where the statement was harmful though, imho, was in its desperation. ‘’For God’s sake’’ reveals a frustration, a desperation, that is undoubtedly music to Putin’s ears. It reeks of Pop Pop helplessly pleading for help because current strategies aren’t having the desired effect.

If you pull that one single phrase out of the speech AND you wanted to hate it before it ever started, then I can see why you think that. I listened to the speech as it was broadcast and there was nothing desperate about it. If you leave all the media spin (from both sides) and political backtracking out of forming your opinion, Biden did nothing more than make the most obvious statements since Russia invaded Ukraine. Putin is liar and can’t be trusted. The west is more unified because of it. The sanctions are and will continue to cripple the Russian economy. Neither the Russian or Ukrainian people deserve it. Putin will never do what will be required to have sanctions lifted, so he’s got to go.

March 27, 20223 yr Pretty much a universal opinion held by anyone not defending their vote .... I don't personally care. I was perfectly fine with my choice for global **** talker. "We want to stop the war that Russia has launched in Ukraine without escalation -- that's the objective."

But with absolute power in Russia and the ability to freely trade with China and India, along with still getting $$$ for Oil from a good chunk of Europe, Putin can live out his days without too much concern. No binding UN resolution(Russia and China would veto, India veto or abstain), no one invading HIS country, no internal threat as they would all be purged. The heat would definitely increase for the global companies that do stay in Russia. But if they get one more penny by staying in Russia than leaving, they'll do it. I mean, look at the US - We gutted the working/middle class by shipping all the manufacturing jobs overseas, to get those couple of pennies per widget to the shareholders. That's why they call it the Almighty Dollar

If the French are against it, I may need to rethink my position here saying it was a mistake. ALWAYS do the opposite of what the French think during war.
