Rewind to the formation of the U.N., the Soviet Union was a founding member and was made a permanent member of the Security Council. Now, fast forward to the collapse of the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union now no longer exists, except in history books. Why did Russia take control of the Soviet seat at the U.N. table, and their place on the Security Council? That's not something that ever crossed my mind until just recently.
