Russia is about to find out the hard way why the US doesn’t have free health care.

The biggest thing they are getting out of this is arty. So long as they use it correctly, they’ll be able to fire and maneuver.

World’s top oil trader will stop buying Russian crude

https://www.cnn.com/2022/04/13/business/vitol-russian-oil/index.html

Quote

Vitol Group, the world’s top independent oil merchant, will stop trading Russian crude oil and products by the end of the year, a source with knowledge of the situation told CNN.

The Dutch energy and commodities trading company will also not enter into any new Russian crude and product transactions, the source said.

You just hate to see it, if you are the sort of scum who supports Russia in this.

F'ing awful. Can't even imagine. Makes me sick just thinking about it.

For the 20+ years I've been on the board I have never put anyone on ignore.  Took pride in it.  Last week that changed and this thread has improved dramatically.  I feel like Elaine driving on the highway after Kramer widened the lanes.

Luxurious

I know that both sides right now are trying to recover and reposition, but I can’t help but notice the lack of initiative on the Ukrainian side. Granted they need more heavy weaponry than what they have, and they are making it known that they feel NATO isn’t doing enough, and they could be doing more. That said, no commander in history has ever gone to war with what they feel was enough of everything. At some point in time they’re going to have to step on the gas. Russia hasn’t fully committed to the new offensive yet, so their best bet IMO is to push them back as far as they can until the new equipment from the rest rolls in. There’s too much hanging back. You can’t win a war that way. You have to fire and maneuver.

It reminds me of a situation in Africa where Patton was surveying an American area and he at one point was shown the CO’s fox hole he used to take cover when they got hit by the Luftwaffe. Payton promptly took a piss in it and said, "There, now use it.”

Patton got it. Pinch them in the nose (fire), and kick them in the a** (maneuver).

How challenging is it to relocate troops that have been in defensive battles and prepare them for an offensive? I also expected more I just don't know what the challenges are with terrain and resistance. From what I understand the Russian backed terrorist groups that have been operating in Donbas are still there, even though the Russians are reorganizing and will take time to get east the long way around.

I’m half tempted to troll and get some type of morale patch that says Abracadabra for my kit when I go over, but I need to prioritize money for other gear.

Ukraine has it easier to move troops because their lines are on the interior. Think about a half circle: less distance from point a to b within the circle than by going around the outside of it. The North is vastly different terrain: hills, cities, mud. The South is all wide open farmland. Different kind of terrain, and terrain dictates tactics. In the north you could pop out of the woods or a building and fire off an ATGM. It’s hard to do that in the Steppe region when there’s nothing to step out of and you’re using a Javelin with a range of 2,000 meters when there’s a T-72 4,000 meters away, and he only needs to get 3,000 meters away to hit you, but you’re still SOL.

I was looking at the equipment that we’re sending over. We’re giving them 18 of our old 155mm howitzers and small radars to detect incoming fire. More or less right now they’re getting enough for three batteries. Enough for a decent area (their range with normal ammo is 18,000 meters), but they’re going to need more for maneuver. I’m guessing with the radars that they’re getting what they’re going to try to do with them is hit Russian batteries to limit their offensive capabilities, rather than enhance Ukrainian offensive capabilities.

This is the dumbest idea I’ve heard. They don’t have the manpower to do this and win.

Their best bet is to have a coordinated two prong attack. The only thing I can think of is that they are faking this to tie up Ukrainians in the donbass and then hitting the flanks, but thanks to satellites there’s no way to screen their movements.

It’s just completely mind boggling. They can’t use tactics like they did against the Chechens and Syrians and expect to win. Neither of them were funded, equipped, and given intel by five eyes.

Good decision, Johnny Boy!

Not much you can do without food or ammo. The commander should be commended for doing the right thing. Sending men needlessly to certain death is not heroic, it's barbaric.

Want to know why there's not much movement by Ukrainian forces? It's because they can't. They are surrounded and cut off. Their supplies have been severely degraded. They are trapped. The honorable thing to do is surrender.

Russia is going to win decisively!

The alt right loves places like Russia, Belarus and Hungary. They've gotten rid of free and fair elections, they don't let any non white people immigrate, they openly persecute gay people and strip them of their rights. These policies are a wet dream for those fools, so they hope that by supporting regimes like those, they can move America closer to that form of government.

This isn't new. This happened in Madison Square Garden

Claims that the Moskva are sunk don't appear to be corroborated. But it's definitely out of action, even if it's "only" being towed to port.

Stat: Russia has lost 7 generals and 33 colonels so far.

Oh, and one fleet flagship in the form of the middle cruiser Moskva.
