Notwithstanding that the ruble has been propped up because the Russian government has strongarmed its population to only be able to do business in the ruble, in the near term they can't even take advantage of a "strong" ruble because imported goods are incredibly scarce. Russia is gambling here on how long the war in Ukraine will take. A protracted war will absolutely gut Russia for a generation or more.
