Russia has plenty of other counties who could buy their gas. They don't need NSII.

Russia is not going to subordinate their national security for NSII. I wouldn't be surprised if Russia unilaterally exited the deal.

The idea that Germany "begged" Russia to run a line that bypassed Ukraine and other intermediaries giving Russia a lot more direct leverage against the West is hilarious.

From a German standpoint NS2 is beneficial. For Gazprom its profitability makes it a no-brainer.

There was no "begging" needed to get a Russian state-owned energy company to build a pipeline directly to a large and profitable customer base.

I don't know if he views all of us as enemies. I think he views everyone, including Russians, as tools/pawns for the following:

1. Increase his grip on power.
2. Increase his own personal wealth.
3. Return Russia to its former Soviet glory.

If that means killing Russians to get it, he'll do it. If that means cozying up and making nice with some Americans, he'll do it. I don't think Putin is ideological. He's just ruthless. Anyone and anything is fair game.
