If you read another post I put up in a different message board, you'd see that I said that any administration would seek to get her back under these circumstances. But that being said, you really need to be brain dead to bring pot into Russia. I agree. What she did (as I expressed in a previous post) was stupid. At the end of the day - she is still an American - and politics aside - we (as Americans) must (without question) stand (even though she may not) as Americans. It's who we are. Understand?

August 5, 20223 yr Yeah in eastern europe weed is Fing huge here. Like legitimately a lot of people smoke. So 9 years on that is way more than what would normally happen (cops break your ish, yell at you, then go grab a coffee). It's pretty obvious that she is a political prisoner and they would not at all do this regularly. On the other hand, we're willing to give up way too much to get her back. Like what kind of an idiot goes to Russia when they're about to go to war. Also not fully checking their bags for stuff. I'm trying not to let it, but it's really aggravating when someone who is very not pro America then suddenly needs America. I don't want to hear a peep out of her when she comes back. No book deal. No interview. Just a quiet life of lesbian solitude.

Pretty sure if it was Vietnam or Korea we would go tell them to pound sand. Why not now? Freedom allows other countries to have different laws. Heck, freedom allows different states to have different laws. Singapore isn’t an enemy, and they execute drug traffickers. Saudi Arabia is, at least ostensibly, an ally, and they execute drug traffickers. The fact is we can’t tell any of these countries to pound sand. Not Russia, not Singapore, not the Saudis. These countries are sovereign. They don’t answer to the US about internal law.

It’s not like she decided to go there for a vacation Edit: Had another thought on this at some point during my s***, shower and shave. You also have to remember that leading up to the invasion, the story was "no no no, we are just doing a military exercise. Stop with the false narrative that we are doing anything but that. You are just trying to provoke us, evil west!!!!" out of Russia. Hell, even the bot here was claiming it was a nothing burger until they actually went in (and then it was "this will be over in a week). So I'm willing to bet the propaganda in Russia at that time was that nothing is going to happen, so what incentive would she have to leave her paycheck prior to the invasion? Yes, I know, I'm a life long Phoenix Mercury fan so my opinion might be skewed and obviously why I'm sticking up for the Notorious B.Y.G.

She purposely had that stuff, supposedly for the pain she has to play through.

So as a freedom-loving American I guess you'd allow any Mexican crossing the border to bring a personal stash of acid, weed, heroin and coke because small amounts for personal use are all legal there. Ditto for Peruvians bringing in 2 grams of coke. And any other foreigners bringing in things that are legal in their countries. America might stand for Freedom but maybe you should bone up on your Russian history. Poisoned journalists, genocide, imprisoned rock bands and protesters. A country firmly in the grip of corrupt oligarchs, which we happen to be in the middle of a proxy war with. A country run by a crafty, despotic former KGB chief. But Griner will be rescued. Biden can't afford not to. Russia and China will use the USA for soccer practice. Between them they have us pathetically outgunned, courtesy of the greedy military industrial complex foisting bad deals on our weak government leaders for decades. The American Empire is on its last legs, so enjoy your American Freedom while you can.
August 5, 20223 yr Incredibly stupid and irresponsible on her part and of course Russia saw the opportunity and have taken advantage of the situation. The focus here should be on Russia and that’s it.
August 5, 20223 yr Does anyone else think the Griner is just a distraction and that the meat of the deal is for Paul Whelan? It seems to be working because Griner is who everyone is talking about.

Yes, I know, I'm a life long Phoenix Mercury fan so my opinion might be skewed and obviously why I'm sticking up for the Notorious B.Y.G. That's a good point. Honestly I wish we would just flex our military and call it a day. We keep thinking of Putin as being crazy like your average Soviet premier, who would cut off their nose to spite their face, when he's a modern day tsar. He won't go nuke because then he ceases to be one of the richest men in the world. Everything Russia does is to posture. Our military and political will aren't built for counter insurgencies (Vietnam, OIF, Afghanistan). What we are built for is a conventional war, and to that end we exceed. It would be like the Gulf War, except then the Iraqi army was battle hardened from Iran. Not like the Russian army now that is getting taken to by a military that only started to modernize eight years ago.
August 5, 20223 yr Every year, a couple of thousand of Americans wind up in foreign jails. The biggest share of them are in Mexico, but since they are not celebrities, who cares? It behooves you to know the laws of the countries you visit. Having chewing gum is a serious offense in some places.

Tons of other people will still be touring away on foreign jails for their ignorance as well. Why is she special?
