Tons of other people will still be touring away on foreign jails for their ignorance as well. Why is she special? She may be a C- lister but she is a celebrity. An international sports star and one of the better women's basketball players of the past decade. What we actually give up for her will be analyzed like a deadline trade but you've gotta be several degrees of brainwashed with toxicity to say we simply don't want her back.

But only an imbecile would posses drugs in a foreign country. Especially one that isn’t a western nation. She's obviously not bright. I think there's a sense of entitled athlete syndrome going on there too (even though she's a WNBA player, insert WNBA jokes here). It still doesn't change the fact that Russia is using her as a political pawn. If she were a Mexican citizen, they'd hardly care. Putin has his hands all over this.

She is a female lesbian black American professional basketball player. Ticks a bunch of boxes and Putin knew very well he could use to her both to create more political dissension in the US and possibly to barter to get back one of his lackeys in the meantime. The focus of this one should be squarely on Putin and his misuse of a private American citizen to do his bidding. On here end, she's a mere pawn who really doesn't deserve any of the attention. Not the crazy stupid prison sentence and not the possibility that the Biden team pays a price to get her back. Certainly not any media attention that ends up with a book, talk show tours, etc. which awaits her if she does indeed return.

A prescription for such things IN THE USA has zero bearing on other countries. You cross state lines with your weed to a non-weed state, you could be busted. The onus is on YOU to figure out the local laws.

The others are out of the Russian BOT playbook aimed to destabilize US society through social division. They have plenty of Americans in jail in Russia. Somehow, this one seems to matter more.

I think the fact that she's specifically someone who has spoken out against injustice in America and as such would end up being a polarizing figure in the current climate here is absolutely a factor. If this was some beloved soccer player like Alex Morgan or Carli Lloyd (the one who didn't kneel for the anthem) I don't think Putin would have been as eager to use them as a pawn because they might actually unite us. Instead we have people right here basically saying they don't care if she rots in jail over a token amount of weed. And I highly doubt that some regular old American citizen would have commanded a 9 year sentence.

August 5, 20223 yr Here's what sucks about the whole situation. Putin is going to use Griner as a pawn to get some assassins and arms dealers out of Western prison. Probably Russian spies. In exchange for a basketball player that wanted to vape some marijuana in her free time.

She is a pawn and it might not have been hard to make a deal to get her out before her wife and the media made a big fuss - especially the very loud public demands putting pressure on Biden. That certainly didn't enhance any leverage we had to negotiate her release. It's typical of the entitled libs who are full of themselves enough to shoot themselves in the foot at every opportunity. Remember the restauranteur who announced she was charging a "man tax" - increasing the price of meals for men in her restaurant to account for the fact that they earn more than women? Big surprise that her business collapsed. Hmm, maybe if instead of "taxing" men she could have simply raised her prices and offered women a big discount? Then instead of boycotting her place, men would have been happy to take advantage of that discount on date night. The same impulse fuels the anti-free speech protests by university snowflakes afraid of being triggered by opinions different than the ones drummed into them by their libtard professors. They have to be catered to and they want their demands met NOW. No wonder the country is taking a right hand turn.

Again, we have to wait and see what the deal is, but you also have to factor the sentences and time already served. If it is an arms dealer who already served 20/25 years for a C list celebrity getting off instead of 9 yrs, well that's a whole different yarn then what you are spinning. Going back to the baseball analogy that superstar 4 month rental is really only worth a couple AA players with 6 yrs full control. The US has also asked for a dude arrested for espionage in the package and it's Russia who thinks the deal is unfair.

Trump's entire rise to power built on the very same item, division.
