Employers have made the conscious and probably rational choice to invest less in workers who don't see the job as more than filling time and not paying enough to justify that time in many cases. On either side. Market is different. It'll change as always. They also probably would prefer employees with reliable means of transportation. Hiring someone that has to depend on a family/friends/etc to get them to work on time is more of a risk than hiring someone who is self-sufficient.

Even way back in the 90s when I was 15/16 most places asked if I could get myself to work (drive, bike, etc.) because the risk of no-shows on a given day for those jobs was near 100%.

For some reason, businesses are so incompetent at avoiding child labor violations that many would rather just not hire them.

That's why you get a job at that age that you can walk/bike to.

September 30, 20223 yr I started working at 14. Legal in PA. I had to go to the office in school to get some kind of working papers.
September 30, 20223 yr About 5000 Russians got themselves surrounded in Lyman. As of 30 minutes ago they've put together several columns of stolen cars and whatever military transport equipment they could operate and are going to make a break for it through a couple contested towns, which the only roads out lead through. Should be fun.
September 30, 20223 yr Lyman could fall quickly, but it's also very defensible from what I understand. The doomed Russian soldiers there could try to make a stand and occupy the AFU, bloodying them in the process. Hopefully they surrender. Or try to make a run for it and become road meat.
September 30, 20223 yr Seems insane that they'd allow a Ukrainian war correspondent to share such information. Though I suppose whatever happened to that convoy probably already did by whatever time it was posted. Guess they chose road meat.
September 30, 20223 yr Biden needs to proclaim an immediate general military conscription in the United States.

September 30, 20223 yr Hold fake referendums, then annex the lands via press release, and then call for peace talks. What a transparent puss-bag. Suck it Vlad.
September 30, 20223 yr The good guys always blow up civilians, because they are easy targets and rarely counterattack.
