If you must get a real answer to this bat-ish insane theory, the primary reason is that Russia wasn't positioned to handle the sanctions that they knew would come until they solidified a partnership with China as a backstop. Value of exports from Russia -> China nearly doubled from 2014 to 2020, for two main reasons: sanctions from the West, and the US-China trade war. China's "New Silk Road" has increases economic cooperation between the nations for a little less than a decade, greasing the skids here. 

The economic ties between China and Russia are much stronger than they were in 2014. This was probably inevitable, but the trade war Trump engaged in certain hastened China's interest in finding other trade partners. 

Now in 2022 Putin felt confident enough that if he engaged in actions that would bring sanctions from the West, there would be a backstop in China to help alleviate the economic pain. 

That's the REAL answer, not that I expect you to accept it because it does not fit the narrative you need it to.

This is also why Putin REALLY wanted Trump; Trump did so many things that put Putin in a better position, whether it was agitating China making Russia a more appealing economic and geopolitical partner, attacking NATO, causing higher than normal levels of intransigence between Western nations, or just sowing division among the American people. He was a BIGLY gift to Russia.
