Let me point out the blindingly obvious: the Flanker was equipped with missiles and a gun, if they wanted the Reaper downed, those would have been used rather than running into the robot. One of the things I learned in water survival training was that I did not want to eject over water, especially cold water and risking doing that by deliberately colliding with the Reaper is way down on the list of stoopid pet tricks for any fighter pilot with half a brain. What happened here was a repeat of the Chinese fighter running into the EP-3 back in 2001. Two of Russia’s most important military airfields in Crimea are located in Dzhankoi and Gvardeyskoye, Britain’s Ministry of Defense said in 2022. "Dzhankoi is also a key road and rail junction that plays an important role in supplying Russia’s operations in southern Ukraine,” it said. Crimea also hosts an important port and a major naval base for Russia’s Black Sea fleet in the city of Sevastopol.
