I've been reluctant to share this because I think it's just part of internal Russian politicking .. but it's still pretty good:

"happy grandpa" LOL that's crazy, the only time I think I've ever seen Putin smile is when some naked female protester ran up to him

The tanks, rather than commemorate the defeat of old Not-zzz, have new fascists to fight.

Russian woman given suspended sentence for ‘insulting’ note on Putin’s parents’ grave

Quote

The note that Tsybaneva placed on the guarded grave on the eve of Putin’s birthday in October read: "Parents of a maniac, take him to your place. He causes so much pain and trouble. The whole world prays for his death. Death to Putin. You raised a freak and a killer.”

As you do in civilized countries. You can't allow dissent.

Lots of stupidity on the part of Russia in the Bakhmut area. Ukraine has reclaimed a couple months worth of advances by the combined Russian forces.

It doesn't seem like this is part of any larger offensive, just Russia doing Russia things and Ukraine taking advantage.

They way Russia has performed against pretty mediocre opponent makes you wonder the motivation behind NATO not too long ago saying Russia could overwhelm many nato countries in less than a week. Either they are incompetent or looking for more money

2nd day in a row Luhansk was hit. Maybe they do have the storm shadows operational.

Russia shot down some of its own aircraft again.

The total lack of effectiveness of the Russian army against Ukraine has been surprising. It was understood that some internal grift and corruption made Moscow's boasts exaggerations, but the expectation was still that they had a well supplied and trained fighting core.

As it turns out hubris undercut much of the early push, as Russian military thought they'd roll in like it was Crimea 2014. Ukraine had prepared 8 years for Russian aggression and punched them in the mouth.

They lost a lot of fighting forces and equipment there.

As time has gone on, the level of corruption and grift began to show itself. And the ability to make up for that hollowing out was limited by the sanctions.

Where the Russian forces did make progress it was behind artillery, which in many cases devastated those cities and towns they took. And even there Ukraine made them pay with blood and precious ammunition.

Ukrainians are well trained, supplies, and fighting for their homelands. Ukrainians also made up an outsized percentage of the Soviet Union's fighting capabilities.

For Russia this is nothing more than an imperial war of conquest. Any flowery language suggesting other reasons (NATO aggression or de-notzefication) is pure propaganda and fantasy.

only real defense against glide bombs is destroying the aircraft before they're launched.
