But, if this is really about Ukraine recovering lost territory, what's the rush? There should be no timeframe associated with that objective. Wouldn't it make more sense to erect formidable defenses and then force the Russians to expend man and material trying to breaking through. The time it would buy them could be used to really train and arm enough divisions to make a legitimate counter attack in the future. As it is, Ukraine is exhausting itself and the patience of it's sponsors banging it's head against a brick wall. Meanwhile, Russia continues it's build-up. If or when the Russians percieve a point of weakness, they may go on an offensive of their own and smash what's left of a depleted force. Game Over.
