August 13, 20241 yr Ukraine's foray into Russian territory has been a much needed win in several ways and not the least of which is the optics and the positive momentum. Of course it will be awesome if they can continue to expand the area of control but even by just holding the current lines they win as they have rattled Putin/Russia and have also secured an important negotiation chip moving forward.

They even said they don't intend on holding referendums, like Russia did, where the survivors "vote" for the guys holding guns to their heads. Which is a violation of Geneva Convention codes anyway. Until then, I'm sure there are actual military purposes in this too. Whether it's forcing Russia to defend, the political embarrassment, or threatening gas lines.
