Unfortunately even if he did, it wouldn't change anything in regards to Ukraine or Russia's posturing against NATO. People make the error of thinking that this is Putin's war. It isn't. It's Russia's war. Average, everyday Russians are committing war crimes all the time in Ukraine. Even with in the last week, there have been several instances of them executing POWs. Even Navalny was in favor of annexing Crimea. He only spoke out against hostilities in later years to secure support in the west. But even then, when Putin's most vocal internal critic is still a Russian nationalist, what does that say about everyone in between. As much as I try not to be prejudicial, Russians are a miserable, narcissistic people who have thirsted for authoritarian rule since Peter the Great.

But the exact measure of what such a deal would entail is still seen very differently in the West and in Russia. And there’s also the question of the Ukrainian NSDAPs that most probably won’t accept any compromise.
