My step-grandfather, pappap, was polish and my maw used to make him something I thought they pronounced as halupkis. Maybe they said it with a g.

My understanding is that Halubsti/Halubki and Galumpkis are pretty much the same thing with slight regional differences between the Czech, Slovakians, Polish and Ukrainian versions. Boiled cabbage with good crap inside, topped in a tomato base sauce and baked

Growing up my parents use to take my sister and I to this basement bar in Catasauqua every Friday run by this old Ukrainian couple.  Anna use to make the best Halupkis with cabbage straight from her garden, but only if you were a regular and they liked you.  If you are an outsider, they couldn't care if you f right off

The little bit of orange is where NATO is 'encircling' Russia.

Meanwhile, in Moscow.

North Korean troops in Russian uniforms are heading toward Ukraine, US says

Chances are, once they get there, they will keep walking and not look back.

Everyone in the Biden admin attended the Chamberlain School of Foreign Policy, so I doubt the US is going to let UA do anything about it until they're in active combat with them.

The Ukrainian Army has shot down another Russian top modern Su-34 fighter-bomber worth USD 40 million. The two pilots didn’t survive.

Funny that the 'knot zees' are the ones who were invaded, and they are not the ones doing this sort of thing.

Weird, huh?

Couldn't even get my own father to understand what was at stake with Ukraine in the election.

Had to keep delaying going back over.  Now I'm not sure what I'll be going back to.  Or the prospects of coming back.

You've already done a lot man. More than any of the rest of us. I've sent money but that doesn't compare. Trying counts. At least it Fing should. I'm sorry you're cursed with the knowledge of what's actually going to happen over there. That's a heavy burden.

Was supposed to go back in 2023 but my grandfather died so I had to help with that.  He was like a second father to me.  I was living with him helping to take care of him before I left since he was in bad health, and after he died I fixed up his house to sell.

Was supposed to go back earlier this year but my kid brother died so I had to deal with that. Helped my dad out taking care of that and doing work at the house and the farm.

Even with all that I still felt guilty not being there helping them.

At the end of the day, the Ukrainian people are good and worth fighting for.  If I didn't continue to help them I would regret it.
