I'm not saying Biden wasn't dealt a crap hand due to German reliance on Russian energy, but the job is supposed to be hard. He had to find the incentives or pressure points to move the Germans and others. Hopefully, he will get there in time. This isn't over yet.

It was exhausting when Obama kept blaming everything on Bush, and it was ridiculous when Trump kept blaming Obama. Part of Biden's appeal was supposed to be his commitment to international diplomacy and security, and his long experience with our allies. He pitched himself as someone who could repair and lead the western alliance, and he failed here. You don't get to constantly blame the last guy. Biden's been weak on Russia, but in fairness the entire country has gone soft. There's no will among the American people to defend Ukraine in any way. Likewise there is no will among the American people to get tough on Russia. We've become a selfish and cowardly nation who mostly care about cheap gas for our SUVs and watching influencers on tic toc and YouTube. Biden's staff knows this. Had he been tougher on Russia he'd lose the left too and his approval rating would be around 10 right now.

They went half arse on helping arm the Ukraine when this became imminent, seemingly pretty weak response on the new pipeline, and now pussing out on SWIFT. Really pathetic response from what should be the leading power of the EU. Not only that, Germany empowered Russia by pushing for the pipeline deal AFTER Russia previously turned off the spigot on another pipeline during the winter.
February 24, 20223 yr we need a strong leader who would be willing to put it all on the line on twitter by threatening to totally destroy russia.

Yeah but it sure would be nice for a politician to stand up for what's right without consideration or concern for reelection. Idealistic, I know.

Had he been tougher on Russia he'd lose the left too and his approval rating would be around 10 right now. No doubt that the entire country has gone soft. But setting that aside, there is no will among the American people to defend Ukraine, nor should there be. Ukraine is not an American ally nor are we bound to defend the country by treaty. That doesn't mean severe punitive measures against Russia should not be taken - primarily for deterrence against future action by bad actors such as Russia, Iran and China.

He used social media and interference in our democratic processes to sow discord, so much so you have republicans echoing Kremlin talking points. As you pointed out he took advantage of Europe's energy dependence. He waited for the right time, strategically positioned his pieces and The next move will be the big gamble. He moves into NATO territory. It will be all out war, or NATO dissolves (all in the opening credits of the movie you referenced). Seeing how weak willed the Europeans are, I'm betting on the latter. The Germans better bush up on their Russian. I'm sure it'll come back quickly for some of the easterners.
