Which wasn't good but got a pass in some cases because...Boba Fett. This didn't have any nostalgic characters to rely on the salvage itself though. Oh well... No one liked The Book of Boba Fett. The only good parts were actually when they did episodes of The Mandalorian season 2.5.
August 22, 20241 yr Author Jokes aside. I'm part of the demographic The Acolyte was trying to hit. The direction Kathleen Kennedy was taking Star Wars was to appeal to women and, specifically, women of color so we can all see ourselves. The truth is I've been a fan from as far back as I can remember. There was nothing wrong with Star Wars. I didn't want it to be more "girly," and I didn't want to "see myself" because it was great as is. I saw myself in characters like Leia, Luke, and Han. I loved that the bad guys were so evil and cool looking, but at the end of the day, good ALWAYS defeats evil. There is no gray area like in modern Star Wars. George Lucas wanted it to inspire hope and give us heroes to root for. Canceling The Acolyte was that glimmer of hope that maybe one day Star Wars would be back on a course familiar to those of us who loved it as it was. Tl;dr I'm a woman of color and modern star wars sucks because they're trying to pander to me. Stop.
August 22, 20241 yr They claim to be targeting a demographic but, in reality, they're just making it for themselves.
August 22, 20241 yr That is a great anecdote for the modern TV landscape Stop chasing the "modern audience" or a specific demographic, and just make great stuff - it will get watched. HOTD blew up because it was good. The Bear blew up, because it was good. Etc

August 24, 20241 yr At what point does this become a potential shareholder issue? I wonder if there is grounds for a class action lawsuit?
August 26, 20241 yr That is what Nelson Peltz was trying to get a seat on the board for. Because clearly the Disney execs are not maximising revenues with some of the slop they've put out on TV and Film, so are not doing the shareholders right. Even the theme parks are struggling - a new ride keeps breaking down and Galaxy's Edge Hotel had significant issues, plus they are expensive and complex to use with apps, etc. https://www.disneytouristblog.com/downtime-problems-tianas-bayou-adventure-magic-kingdom/ https://www.forbes.com/sites/suzannerowankelleher/2023/05/28/why-disney-closed-star-wars-hotel-galactic-starcruiser/ The company is prime to be taken by new mgmt and broken up, because its bloated and taking iconic IPs and making them a laughing stock
August 26, 20241 yr Speaking of rides that keep breaking down, this is the inside of Space Mountain with the lights on. It was down most of the day one day and I took this from The People Mover. Which also breaks down multiple times per ride.
August 26, 20241 yr Kind of an allegory for Disney. Seen better days and in need of a fixing from the bottom up

It also suffered a lot of viewer atrophy as time went on, which should be a death knell to any program. Andor had low ratings, but grew them over the series and it ended up on Hulu right? We can talk about the bad story and acting, but the practical realities are it didn't perform. If it was $50m or less to make or maintained a rating, then perhaps it might have stood a chance. Not even KK can justify spending that again on a failure. Sadly, they tried to tease Darth Plagueis for season 2 to hook people in, but that wasn't enough to save it and may even harm introducing that character into the Universe. And they think there is an audience for the Rey movie. They could easily do a Darth Plagueis series based on the Jame Luceno novel which is gloriously free of lesbian space witches.

In a normally run production company, then yes. But this is Lucasfilm we are talking about. Known for how bad they are. I've still not forgiven them for beer gut Thrawn
August 28, 20241 yr Author Let's not forget that Disney Star Wars includes Rogue One and The Mandalorian (most of it is good). Ahsoka was decent as a standalone story, but it had some issues and doesn't make that much sense in the context of the other content in the timeline. But it was better than The Acolyte and most of the sequel trilogy movies. Perhaps, after Disney realizes what's not working and Filoni lets go of his Clone Wars and Rebels obsession...they can move on to create new content that gets back to its roots. Going far back in time was a good idea, the Acolyte just failed miserably in execution. They'll either have to go further back for KOTOR or far future away from Skywalker saga and do something new.

We've now been to that park on at least 4 different trips and every time it shuts down while we're in line and doesn't open back up. Twice, including this last visit, we were next in line to ride when it quit. We've still never ridden it.
August 29, 20241 yr It doesn't matter what they do.... They ruined it. They had one opportunity to reboot the franchise and continue the story with Luke, Han and Leia and they blew it. They spent all that money and they basically winged it and made it up as they went along. It's unforgivable and they don't deserve your money.

Someone I follow on the socials goes to parks in general and constantly complains that Disney parks have become expensive and complicated. You can't just turn up and some rides are never working. Universal feels a better experience.

You can't comeback easily from Lesbian Space Witches. They managed to fumble Luke, Han and Leia meeting and trashed Luke as a character. So they went back in history and took dumps on that too. The best thing to do is decanonise the Disney stories completely and start again from film 6. It will at least give you a blank slate to start from and build something new. It's too complex to fix now and Lucasfilm for sure don't have the brains and willingness to do that. They hired Headland FFS and let her do her thing.

It's interesting that other iconic franchises have done reboots, remakes and such. There have been various iterations of a lot of comic book characters. They shouldn't remake the OG trilogy or bother with the prequels. But, they could do some creative things like supplemental material or ignoring certain content like the Halloween franchise did. Darth Vader movie or even a series: utilize Hayden Christensen while he's still young but with a better director and script. Can have Obi-Wan involved but limited scenes. Do a supplemental story within the Clone Wars with him doing missions with other Jedi, include the actress who played young Ahsoka in the TV series. Show more of his issues with the Jedi, the Republic, the war, his pull to the dark side, his relationship with Ahsoka and the clone troopers. Show more of order 66 and hunting down the Jedi. Give us more badass Vader in full suit, the one we saw in Rogue One and in video games. Redo episodes 7-9. Draw inspiration from the legacy books. Can cast Sebastian Stan as Luke, just make it happen. If needed, they can re-cast Han and Leia or just use limited CGI characters of them (or de-age Harrison Ford but he's been done with the franchise for a long time anyway and might not want to). The guy from Solo looked and sounded nothing like Han that was terrible casting. Do the story of rebuilding the Republic, give us Mara Jade, not sure if they can do Thrawn since they're doing him in Ahoska. But give us a better sequel series after ROTJ. Since that's not likely, they can do a movie or limited series of post-ROTJ with Luke learning from the Coruscant archives, old Jedi texts, discovering the island he would eventually exile himself to, give him a mission such as old Inquisitors who were mercenaries who have joined up with remnants of the Empire or something like that. KOTOR and other video game inspired stories. IF they insist on doing something with Rey and new stories, then either do a TV series with multiple seasons and a movie or two (like Star Trek: The Next Generation) or do a series of movies that depart from the Skywalker saga and have Rey and other new Jedi go back to ancient Jedi locations and teachings to re-learn what the Jedi are supposed to be about and rebuild the order while facing new Sith/dark force user threats and new political environment.
