The point is that you're purposely shifting the conversation from economic to social politics to force failing right-wing authocratic regimes into your binary "left bad / right good" argument.

I could easily argue the RF is "to the right" of the Soviet Union economically and failing. 

Plenty of leftist policy positions are stupid, and I'll gladly pillory any and all of those that qualify. Same is true of right-wing policy positions, including many populist economic positions picked up by the right over the last decade.

Russia and China are a bizarre amalgam of fascism and communism. The most terrifying aspect of today's geopolitical climate is that communism and fascism are not natural enemies anymore. Dictators like Xi and Putin have taken the worst aspects of both to terrorize their people and hold on to power.

His positions line up perfectly with the end goals of the modern GOP.  Is that right wing?  It's certainly to the right of most countries in the world today.  Is it right wing compared to some of the fantasy right wing think tank ideas that you pretend to believe in?  No, but none of the abstract nonsense is or ever will be implemented on a national scale.  It's intentionally impossible to achieve because the modern right is a bunch of cowards that hide behind the impracticability of their beliefs.  It's the right wing equivalent of "real socialism has never been tried".
