Texas residents sue county for removing books on race, sex education

A group of residents in Llano County, Texas, is suing county officials for removing books from public libraries because officials "disagree with the ideas within them."

"Public libraries are not places of government indoctrination,” the lawsuit filed Monday reads.

It continued, "They are not places where the people in power can dictate what their citizens are permitted to read about and learn. When government actors target public library books because they disagree with and intend to suppress the ideas contained within them, it jeopardizes the freedoms of everyone.”

Several of the books listed in the lawsuit that have been removed from libraries include adult works about oppression and racism like "Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents,” by journalist Isabel Wilkerson, and "They Called Themselves the K.K.K.: The Birth of an American Terrorist Group” by Susan Campbell Bartoletti.

"Though Plaintiffs differ in their ages, professions, and individual religious and political beliefs, they are fiercely united in their love for reading public library books and in their belief that the government cannot dictate which books they can and cannot read," the lawsuit read.

The idiots on both sides, wanting things banned because they don't like them, can't deal with them, or are afraid of them, are a cancer.

Banning books is enforced ignorance.

Maybe but she does have a point in that one tweet though she overdoes it. Don’t think it would have made any difference.

So what do you think the Hunter Biden story is that’s been covered up?

Oops.

The left would never do this.  Well, except for the Bible.  And To Kill a Mockingbird.  And Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.  And....

Remember @DrPhilly the story was that he was making money doing business in Ukraine. It’s not hard to connect the dots.

I don’t think the story itself is particularly interesting. Not in regard to Joe anyway.

Then what's the problem?  That the news was biased?  Welcome to media in the 21st century.

Are you for it or against it?

Or as usual, only against when it is the left?

Yeah it has gotten far worse and is a real problem.

So you’re just upset that Russian propaganda hasn’t been allowed to be posted on Twitter?

No one wants to do anything to change it.  Nor is it ever going to change.  Better to drop the pretense and fake outrage.

How about saner adults instill a bit of sanity instead of just giving up?

Yes, we've never heard of filthy rich men with secrets suiciding themselves.

Jeffrey Epstein says Hi

So now running Twitter is akin to running a pedophile ring. I could see how you'd draw that conclusion.

You’re in Musk Twitter melt down aren’t you?

Not unless it's applied to both sides of the media landscape.  You can't have right wing media with hair-on-fire propaganda and lies and at the same time have some pretend journalistic integrity applied to the liberal media.  But, again, it's not possible, short of going back to the Fairness Doctrine (and even that is unrealistic considering the amount of outlets in today's world).  What's the other solution?  Expect a for profit media to turn against their own financial benefit in the interest of the people?  Good luck with that.  Better to accept it and act accordingly.
