June 24, 20223 yr Well, I guess that's over. I always thought the actual opinion in Roe (basing it on a right to privacy) was weak and misguided, but I saw no reason to overturn it after all this time. I really wish the Court had definitively ruled back then on when Constitutional rights are conferred to the fetus, but they whiffed. And the federal government should have codified this years ago. Assuming this goes back to the states, let's see if this motivates voters on the left to finally get off their asses and vote in local elections. I have my doubts. I don't see this decision as opening a door for a national abortion ban from Congress -- it seems that they want this returned to the states.

Likely costs Trump even more of that coveted suburban female vote in 2024

Getting out the vote is always an issue on the left, but this is a huge boost to that effort. It won't matter what happens at the state level. National ban is next.

June 24, 20223 yr This will make upcoming elections very interesting. Voters will have to decide if their love of murdering babies outweighs being able to afford food and gas. Tough decisions.

That would be blatantly Unconstitutional per this ruling (I haven't read all of it, but based on the highlights). If there's ANY logical consistency, it would be overturned and this would be left to the states. 2 minutes ago, Paul852 said: So are we going to fix the child care crisis now or nah? I haven't gone through the actual opinion, but all I've heard is that they've said the issue "Should be returned to its people's representatives." It doesn't say state reps., so that leaves the door open from what I can gather.

Seems odd, how years ago there wasn't such a crisis, despite even a BABY BOOM, until that is society blew up the Nuclear family. Anyway, I am all for working on that, among other things, like free contraceptives etc. My personal feelings are it's a shame we are too lazy as a society where we choose to murder babies as a means of birth control, when there are soo many other options avail to prevent that, that are less costly, and less harmful to all involved.

The only way that happens is with Republicans controlling both house and the WH and enacting legislation. Legally and morally, abortion can be two different issues. Legally, there is no justification for the Supreme Court usurp a matter like this which lies within the purview of the states.

Stop the stupid eviction moratoriums. Stop giving them food stamps. Don't forgive student loans. Work or starve. People will come back to work.

Keeping women out of the workplace at home with the kids will fix that AND drive up salaries due a smaller workforce supply. (Edit: AND!!!! It will shut up the US Womens soccer team. I really don't see a downside) (Edit 2: Actually, several posters here may starve to death if that happens) I'm a consultant. I'm here to help
