I'm sorry I brough such a depressing topic into the blog.  A little back story without too much detail. I met my friend 12 years ago during an AF commissioning program. He was on top of the world

Not sure. When did you think you made it up?

I know I made it up back when I was a chef in the 90’s.  Fight me.

Sure you did.

It's something Howie did.  Circular causality.

Ah.

Oh I was calling it the other day.  Even before Jesse Bates...this is Dream Team 2.0.  Just younger and without a decent QB.  But other than that...my guy Lowie has done great.  Told you all.

And then goes on to say he "would welcome Jessie Bates on his defense with open arms" lol

Obviously I am joking that I made it up.  But we used to make that joke at the Country Club I was a chef at in the late 90's early 2000's.  Don't hate.  It might have just made it's rounds to Hazleton, like cable TV and 3G.

Thinking about the Bradberry signing and what it means to how the secondary will play.  Sure hints at a lot of zone.  Bradberry plays with a tighter cushion than Nelson.  This pairs well as long as we see better pass rush than last year and better coverage from the LBs.  Raises some question about what the Eagles thought of Vincent, Gowan, McPhearson, Scott and McCain. Spent some draft capital on them but low round costs.  Figure the probably keep 10 DBs. STs will play a role in deciding who sticks.

D still looking like bandaids. Cox, Graham, Hargrave, Edwards, White, Bradberry, Epps and Harris all signed for this season only.  Sorry, if I am not celebrating the brilliance in that.

Thankfully they only have 7 games against teams that had a winning record last season.

The 1 win is a bit of a false positive, too.  They beat the Saints with their backup QB, with whom the Saints were 1-4 in games he started.

I actually pointed this out the other day (pff had his grade in 2021 regular season as 56 and in 2020 it was 90. And 2019 it was 61. So he has been up and down for his career). He was really underwhelming during the regular season for the bengals. Then the playoffs came around and really stepped up and played closer to what he was in 2018 and 2020. However in 2019 and regular season last year he was not nearly as good. I’m guessing part of the reason the bengals don’t want to give him a long term deal right now is he’s asking too much and they want to see if he plays more like playoff form or 2021 regular season form.

And his only other career win against a team with a winning record, was also against the Saints in 2020, with their other backup QB who is more of a RB than a QB.

Not just the backup Qb. Down both starting tackles and Alvin kamara as well.

Bates has a pretty high number of missed tackles too. Granted he also has a high tackle total as well which to me points a bit towards DL issues being part of the equation.

Still think he's a very solid player. Not sure I'd spend a premium/pay a premium for him though.

I would have rather gotten Bates than Bradberry. It would have made the team better.

I think we will be a better team, obviously.  But the record might not show it as it compares to last year.  Because I doubt, we will run into a gauntlet of opposing Qb's like the list below.

Darnold- win

Bridgewater- win

Siemian- Win

Jones- Loss (thanks to Hurts)

Wilson- Win (thanks to Minshew)

Garrett Gilbert.....Gilbert- Win

Glennon/Fromm- Win

Heinicke- Win

Birds with friends talked about this on their latest pod. The eagles face like 4-5 above average to great QBs this year and a lot of around mediocre to bad QBs. listing from best to worse

rodgers

dak (x2)

cousins

murray

(next 4 i think people can have multiple different orders  i put it this way but i can see it in multiple different ways)

tannehill

Ryan

wentz (x2)

winston

goff

lawrence

trubisky

jones (x2)

Whoa, a high pick bust is transitioning to TE faster than JJAW

I get that the most basic understanding of the safety position is that they are the last line of defense. So youd want them to be a good tackler.

But I really feel, in our defense, I would prioritize range in coverage, and ball skills. I dont think the tackling needs to be top notch behind this front 7.

On the fast track, skipped enforcer and went straight to TE
