Maybe that's the part of football that Howie doesn't understand. Wentz having to reclaim the starting spot after Foles won the SB was always going to be a difficult thing to do. Then you draft Hurts. Why the hell would you put that kind of dynamic on Hurts now? So half the locker room wants Foles to start? People said Wentz needed to suck it up when it happened Foles would make the QB room better (which is likely the answer Howie would give if they did sign Foles)
May 23, 20223 yr 1 minute ago, schuy7 said: Yeah, it's not about scaring Hurts. It's about dividing the locker room. The move just doesn't make any sense. Nevermind that Foles isn't even that good of a player. It's all splash. Who in that lockerroom was even on the team with Foles? There's only like 5 players left from the last team he was on with the Eagles.
May 23, 20223 yr I really think the Eagles showed interest out of respect for one of the most beloved athletes in the history of the city, who happened to be looking for a job.
May 23, 20223 yr Dave Zangaro just listed his top extension candidates. What a gross list. Hargrave- Please tell me they learned their lesson from Cox. Extending a 30 year old DT when you just used 5 draft picks over the last 2 drafts to bring in Milton Williams and Jordan Davis, plus adding Noah Ellis as an UDFA. Hargrave should be a trade deadline candidate, not extended. Sanders- If Sanders comes back on a very very team friendly RB salary then I'd be OK, provided they upgrade RB next year. This RB group is so uninspiring. Seumalo- He's been an Eagle for 6 years. He's started the following number of games. 2, 4, 9, 16, 9, 3. Over the last 2 years, he's played in 12 out of 33 games. Why anyone would want to extend him is beyond me. I get that extensions will help the current cap but extending underperforming players is a recipe for a bad team.

I'd let Sanders play out his deal and trade Hargrave and Seumalo. Unless Seumalo would take a ridiculously team-friendly contract.
May 23, 20223 yr Just now, Connecticut Eagle said: Are you suggesting that we would be sellers this season? Not at all but in reference to what I said in the same sentence. The Eagles have invested heavily the last two drafts at DT and most likely will again next year as they always do. But if a player who is going to be 30, is a rotational player and in need of a new contract can bring back draft capital or a player at another need position then I'm all for it.
May 23, 20223 yr Hargrave is good enough to give him a three-year deal or something like that. Sanders and Seumalo are either brought back on very friendly deals, or they can both walk. Seumalo's getting lost in the numbers and Sanders lost me last season.

I see your point, but current expectations suggest that we'd want to keep him around for a playoff run. Then let him walk and get worked into the comp pick formula.

I'm in the same line of thinking, but a different reason for Hargrave. I think we need to see how this season plays out with Hargrave and this defensive transition. He was in a 3-4 with Pitt and then moved to a 4-3 with the Eagles and his numbers were better. If the Eagles are moving to a more 3-4 base, I would be hesitant to extend him. Plus if Williams performs at a high level, there will be no need to extend him since he would at least be the 3rd DT/NT.

Maybe how they've handled Fletcher Cox has made he really hesitant but I just don't think he's worth the money. He's not. He started off red hot last year but then over the last 9 games he had 14 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 2 TFL. I think Hargrave is one of, if not the most overrated Eagle.

May 23, 20223 yr I've come to the conclusion that Carson Strong is the new Joe Ostman. My expectation is that he'll have a similar level of success in the NFL.

Well, I guess that's one reason they were able to kick some cap can down the road and add AJ Brown's contract. With Mailata and Sweat extended, we are in that (enviable?) position of all those bad drafts coming to the end of their rookie deals. Not many players they need to extend. Hargrave: they better not give him big money. He's a perfect trade deadline candidate, as you said. What else can they possibly dump into the DT position? Sanders: Ride him into the ground this year, get what you can, pump up his value, and hope he signs a big contract elsewhere for a decent comp pick. He's unreliable, a liability on third down with his lack of contribution in the passing game, and doesn't have a nose for the end zone. Seumalo: best player on this list. We've got 3 LG/C's on the roster in Dickerson, Jurgens, and Seumalo...with Kelce keeping the seat warm at C and no RG. Seumalo, with his experience, could probably be the best RG on this team, although no one mentions his name there.
