If any good QB in the history of the NFL didn't play well in their first playoff game, that means it's okay that Hurts was completely inept in his. Duh.

How did the defense prevent Hurts and the offense scoring a single point in the first 3 full quarters in the playoffs?

Defense did a hell of a job only giving up 17 first half points considering the offense could not stay on the field.

First 9 possessions, Eagles only ran more than 6 plays once.

Yup, I thought the defense did just about all they could while constantly being thrown back on the field by short offensive possessions and the 3 turnovers the offense had.

Eagles didn't score until their 11th drive, and both teams had 13 drives so there wasn't a lack of opportunity from the Eagles side.

Are you kidding? I would work overtime for that! Come at me bro!

I would very much like for his running % to come down closer to 15%. There were only 3 players that were higher than 20%, Lamar Jackson (25.8%), Jalen Hurts (24.3%), and Justin Fields (21.1%). 4th highest is Jameis Winston (16.6%). I don't want to take away Hurts' running ability too much, but running on almost 25% of his total attempts is just too much.

We're calculating using two different data points, but it's the same idea.  I'm calculating by 139 rushing attempts against his 432 passing attempts to reach 32.2% and comparing against historical "dual threat" QBs -- none of whom succeeded in the NFL long-term at anything over 20%.  About 17-18% is the maximum "sustainable" ratio for success.  Hurts isn't anywhere close to that.

Using my calculation and wanting to get Hurts under 20% would have meant he needed to run 86 times or less against those 432 pass attempts.  Using your calculation of 571 combined rushing and passing attempts last season, reducing to 86 running attempts would have put him at 15.1% -- so we're pretty much looking for the same end result.

The eagles got down 17-0. Next 3 Bucs possessions they punted on all 3 and had -1 yards. The eagles offense proceeded to turn the ball over on downs, throw an interception (smith was wide open but the ball didn’t get there soon enough or out soon enough so Bucs defender made the playoffs) and a 3 and out punt.

the first 4 possessions by the Bucs destroyed the eagles defense. It was ugly. No defending how bad the defense was. However the first 3 possessions by the eagles offense just as inept. The eagles had 3 possessions and had 3 3-and-outs for a total of 17 yards and 1 first down by penalty. Also a grand total of possession being 5:51 for those 3 drives

The defense was not good against better teams throughout the year. Was obvious. But acting like offense had no blame for their crap performance against playoff teams throughout the course of the year is laughable. The only game the offense was consistent against playoff teams was against the KC. The rest of them they got down 14+ points due to the defense being bad and the offense not being able to move the ball consistently and capitalize on their opportunities

I see what you are calculating now, obviously math isn't my strong suit. I was looking at his total attempts and taking the percentage of rushing attempts, but yes we are on the same page there.

I don't think the defense was phenomenal, but think they did about as best as they could over the last half of the season. I think the defense this past year was mostly about installing the scheme and now this off season they went and got talent to play the scheme. This is the whole issue with Hurts's primary skill being a runner. This team cannot win any shootout because the offense can't keep pace. That's why they go with the running game and ball control, to slow down and limit the opportunities for the opposing offense. Well, they ran into a team that can control the run game, and there was no passing game to help them out.

Penalties, like turnovers, are not sticky from year to year. This affected us more than other teams.

And how many of the TDs wouldnt have been TDs without the penalties?

They were penalties... they were called.  They dont matter.  They never happened.

Have single game tickets already been released? I’m surprised there hasn’t been any announcement this year.

I think Howie needs a visit from...

Watson sucked his first playoff game. Playoffs are a different ballgame, and Eagles were outmatched by TB.

If Hurts makes the necessary improvements, it'll show against all opponents b/c he's playing on a much better team.

Last year, the defense couldn't stop a good QB, not just from scoring, but from controlling the game (80% complete does that).

McNabb won his first playoff game but never won a Super Bowl.  Foles lost his first playoff game but did win a Super Bowl.

Fair enough. I dont know forsure but im guessing some of those 10 rushing TD's dont happen if we convert some of those passing TD's. That's why i dont like the "what if" scenarios because there are a billion of them. Bottom line, what he put on tape last year wasnt good enough for us to feel comfortable hitching our wagon to him long term. Hopefully he takes that leap this year.

Yup

In the first half of the year, yes. We beat SF if not.

Ultimately, it has no impact on this year.

Nah.

You keep repeating this like it matters.  It didn't matter the first time you said it.  It matters even less now.

Justin Herbert didn't make the playoffs guys.

Deshaun Watson sucked in his first playoff game

But still had a better completion percentage, yards, TD to INT ratio, passer rating etc than Hurts.

Josh Allen was bad his first playoff game.

Yeah, 356 yards of total offense and lost in overtime,  What a scrub.

If thats the Houston game I'm thinking of, Josh Allen literally did everything he could to win. Ran for TD, caught a TD, no interceptions and his defense gave up a 20 point lead.

It is that game, but the only TD was Allen catching a TD from John Brown.

Who do you think will be the better QB in 3 years, irrespective of their team surrounding them: Justin Fields or Hurts

Fields

Fields by a mile.
