OTAs show nothing, practice in short show nothing.

The inter-team scrimages will probably be the most revealing pre-season, since Sirianni doesn't show much in exhibition games and the marginal players get most of the PT, which makes them great previews for practice squad players.

So I'll just wait for mid-August before getting excited/upset about any player (other than injuries).

I'm sorry I brough such a depressing topic into the blog.  A little back story without too much detail. I met my friend 12 years ago during an AF commissioning program. He was on top of the world

We (the EMB) currently sit at just over 940,000 posts. We're on pace for about 40,000 posts for the month of May. So it's looking like we'll break 1,000,000 posts within the first couple of weeks of J

Thanks for your insight.

Just look at his feet and hips dude.

Out on this dude, coffee and Mayo.

I don’t doubt Hurts’ commitment to get better, nor the time and effort needed to accomplish it.

I just have doubts as to whether a level of improvement is possible that can overcame his deficiencies in talent.

There’s no point in breaking down the differences. Your minds are made up anyway. And it’s OTAs.

You’re a quick one

ESP said after one OTA Hurts has the potential to be a top 5 to 10 QB and have 40 combined TD’s and 14 wins. So I’m gonna trust the professionals who saw it live.

Im sure the Bills totally didnt see Allen as a franchise QB when they traded up to 7 to draft him. Setting the fans up for disappointment. Hurts is not on the same planet as Josh Allen in the traits department. Josh has literally every trait you look for in a modern day franchise QB. Elite size, mobility & arm talent. He's even a better runner than Hurts IMO. I expect quotes like this from fan boys, not the owner of my favorite team

So happy to have our Lord and Savior Jalen Hurts

I think what Lurie might be trying to convey is did the NFL see Allen as a franchise QB when the Bills drafted him?  I think the answer is still "yes” because he was a consensus top 15 pick even before BUF traded up to take him at #7.

It’s a worthwhile discussion though, because it illustrates the need for a WR1 in the offense.  Allen was a 53% passer in Year 1 because he had Zay Jones as WR1 and Robert Foster as WR2.  Nobodies.  He progressed to a 59% passer in Year 2 with John Brown as WR1 and Cole Beasley as WR2.  Not sure where either of those guys are playing now.

Allen developed into a 69% passer in Year 3 in no small part to the acquisition of Stefon Diggs, who caught 127 of the 166 passes Allen threw his way (76.7%).  Allen dropped to 63% completions in Year 4 but still a very prolific 36 TD and 15 INT.

The biggest issue facing Hurts is, does he have that upside even now that the offense has been built?  Allen came into the NFL with significantly more natural ability than Hurts — as indicated by their draft positions.  Cannon for an arm vs pedestrian arm talent, and Allen’s skill set seems tailor made for the conditions in Buffalo.

I love the Josh Allen comparisons.  They are so... what's the word...  oh, yeah... lazy.

I was going to go with absurd

Did Allen have progression processing issues? I thought it was just the accuracy/mechanical issues, which are hard enough to correct on their own.

Just saying this isn’t true. Cheerleaders wearing booty shorts practicing their routine shows a lot.

Jalen Hurts is Tim Tebow meets Tyrod Taylor. He's nothing like Allen.

Right? Josh Allen out of the last 50 years of football has a top 10 arm if not top 5 if not top 3. Just in terms of strength. He has the best arm talent in the nfl. He had elite arm strength coming out of college. The only other Qb in the league I’d argue to be close to him is herbert or rodgers a couple years back. There was a reason before Allen’s last year at Wyoming Adam schefter was talking about him at the previous draft and GMs loved his arm talent but worried about his accuracy especially cause it wasn’t great when he faced good teams in college.

also the second part where lurie asks the question is completely erroneous. There’s a reason why Buffalo traded up to get Allen and coveted him. They thought he was going to be their franchise QB and they could fix the flaws in his mechanics which would help his accuracy. He developed into an elite QB due to the bills drafting him on him being their franchise QB.

Allen had prototypical size, A+ arm, great mobility. Hurts only has one of those things, arguably the least important of the three, or at best 2nd.

Allen was worth it to wait a few years to develop due to his ceiling, Hurts is not. It's this year or bust for him.

A guy like Anthony Richardson is in the Allen talent mold. Big, tall, A+ arm, excellent mobility. A talent like that you can justify being a little more patient for, not Hurts.

If Hurts was 6'5 with a cannon arm, most would be willing to take the wait n see approach. He's 6'1 with an average arm, bad field vision, bad anticipation & a propensity to leave clean pockets.

Exactly. Obviously we'll never know but im willing to bet rookie Josh Allen would've performed alot better with DeVonta, Goedert, Quez & a top 5 oline. I think i'd take Miles, Gainwell & Howard over 2018 Shady & Chris Ivory as well. I'd love for Hurts to go out there and throw 4000+ yards & 30+ TD's. I just dont think he's capable. Hope he makes me a believer.

Pressure is on, no excuses. Josh Allen is going to have to make the Jalen Hurts leap.

And yet….not enough

Take QB's out for a second. Would you rather have the Bills supporting cast or the Eagles supporting cast? I think Diggs & Brown are very close but id probably give the nod to Diggs. He's been more productive since Brown entered the league but he's also had better QB play. I think Smith/Quez> Davis/Crowder. I think Goedert is better than Knox & Howard. I think the Eagles Oline is better than the Bills Oline. I'd probably take Miles/Gainwell over Singletary/Cook as well. Am i being a homer?

Lurie should fire himself after those comments.

Just goes to show how deep the delusion is.

I highly doubt Lurie believes what he's selling. There is a reason Eagles tried to trade for Russ/Watson and have draft picks lined up to go get a QB.

He's just selling hope to the fanbase.
