June 11, 20223 yr I don't think that people properly understand that it ain't all about the size of the boat but it's also not about the motion in the ocean either. Sometimes it's just about if the rent is paid on time everyday. 60% of the time, it works every time.

His batting has gone to crap with this new bad habit. For those of you who played baseball, how did your dads, coaches, etc get you to stop fearing the ball? My son is laying down watching TV and I just started throwing balls at him. Think thatll work? He has the the home run derby tomorrow, and championship game Sunday so the fear has to get out of him now. Maybe baseball is not his sport. There are a lot of major leaguers who are afraid of the ball, more than you might think. When Bob Gibson or Nolan Ryan threw it they were looking for a seat in the dugout. I don't know how old your son is but one thing I'm sure of: telling him to Man Up is not the way to go.

Maybe it won't be. But he's still having fun playing it. He's only 8. He didn't used to be afraid. He had been excellent. Only a recent thing after taking one on the thumb while batting. I think he will move past it at some point.

Besides, he'll think it's cool. There are some that have padding on the backs of the fingers. The fear is not necessarily a bad thing, so long as you can control it and work through it. It's part of growing up. Back when I did some semi-serious weight-lifting, our trainer would say, "You should always be a little afraid of the weights. If you're not, you should add more weight."

We used to do that as catchers working on short hops all the time

I am trying to help him because he likes it, but secretly I hope this is his last season. I hate baseball almost as much as I do soccer.

Have him drive the nails to hammer two boards together until he can get the nail straight in with three hits. He’ll hit his thumb enough setting the nails as he improves his skill that getting hit on the thumb by a baseball thrown by another 8 year old will seem like child’s play. Is he batting right or left. I am left handed a generally grew to hate baseball by the time I hit high school. Inevitably in almost every game from LL on, some right handed pitcher would bean me because he couldn’t figure out how to change his pitch for a left hander or switch hitter batting left.

You damn lefties were so much harder to jam with an inside pitch

June 11, 20223 yr These baseball suggestions remind me of the famous sports phrase - "if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball."
