Unheralded player to surprise: Milton Williams.  He could get lost in a deep DL, but if used creatively, he could be really good.

Solid player that takes the next step towards high end/stardom: I'm going with Mailata again.  I still think he has a lot of work to do in pass protection and still think he's not considered a top 5 OT by most unbiased sources.  This could be the year that changes.

Established player that disappoints: Either AJ Brown or Devonta Smith.  I don't see both of them matching their numbers from last year.  One of them is going to dip.

Most improved 2nd year player: Landon Dickerson.  A full season and offseason between Mailata and Kelce should help to clean up, if not eliminate, his pass protection hiccups, which were a bit under-acknowledged last year.

Player from the last 2 drafts that disappoints: Jordan Davis.  He'll be fine, but I wouldn't expect much of anything from him in the stat sheet in year 1 with Hargrave and Cox around.  He's here to beef up the line for the future.

2 completely different awards.

Nasty Nate was hyped up immediately upon being drafted due to his highlight reel that showed him bowling over defenders coupled with TATE's yearning for a "big back" it snowballed into a massive amount of hype. He never lit it up in training camp/preseason, etc. Then he was cut.

Booker is one of many training camp/preseason superstars that gain a lot of hype in the offseason due to their performance in OTA/TC/preseason and then never amount to much in the regular season or get cut. (Rasheed Bailey, Paul Turner, etc.)

It really should be the Na Brown award then. He was a star in training camp that all the players loved but turned into a pumpkin once the regular seasons started.

Anyone in the blog know this?

Curious on a ballpark estimate to put in central air, and heat in a house with no existing system. Just had baseboard, coal stove, and wall AC units.

I want to know everything we need starting from scratch- Outside unit, furnace, duct work, etc. Ballpark price to expect in a quote.

There's been plenty that could probably be retroactively given the award

Same for Nasty Nate as well. Jeremy Bloom came before NN and he was being hyped up immediately after being drafted as a return specialist.

Booker was a Na Brown, for whom the award was already named. Eagles cut a recent winner earlier this offseason, Ostman.

Alright...question for the dog days of the offseason.  Give a name for each of the following:

Unheralded player to surprise:

Solid player that takes the next step towards high end/stardom:

Established player that disappoints:

Most improved 2nd year player:

Player from the last 2 drafts that disappoints:

For reference, these would be my 2021 answers:

Surprise: Watkins

Solid player with the next step: Mailata

Disappointment veteran: Miles Sanders

2nd year improvement: Watkins

Draft disappointment: Reagor

Unheralded: I really want to say Reagor takes a step forward but I just don’t trust the QB play enough that there’s enough balls to go around. Let’s go Gainwell

Solid player that takes next step: I’ll say Hargrave is more consistent through the whole season.

Disappointment vet: Slay - CBs fall fast and hard. And he’s coming off a better than anticipated season.

2nd year improvement: Dickerson

Draft disappointment: I’m guessing mcphearson gets called to start a few games this season and gets toasted often.

Player from the last 2 drafts that disappoints:  Milton Williams, could get lost in the shuffle

I'll stay away from our particular QB situation, but I want to address a pet peeve of mine with QB labeling.

It irritates me that the media (and even professional players and coaches) refer to athletic running QBs as "new era quarterbacks."  Running QB's have been around for a LONG time.  Offenses built around high volume precision passing started to appear in the early 2000's and then expanded rapidly in the next 10-15 years due to officiating changes.  The irony in all of this is that the new era QB is polished, accurate, and doesn't run much.  Running QBs are the throwbacks, reaching into a prior era and philosophy.

I think the confusion is that running QB's tend to have shorter, less effective careers, unless they adapt...and the running ability tails off pretty quickly.  So must running QB's tend to be in college or 1st-3rd year NFL players.  This creates the impression of a "next generation" of QBs that is  more mobile and dangerous with the ball in their hands.

I suspect as defenses gear so much towards stopping the pass that the offenses will revolve back towards more even running including QB running as the college game isn’t producing a lot of dropback passers.  Not sure I agree that running QBs last less time.

I am hoping to see Nick vary a bit from RO and RPO this year with more motion to help Hurts with his presnap reads.  I am hoping Hurts gets a bit better at play action passing. He is actually pretty good at disguising his pull backs so he should be able to take that step.  Given Sirianni’s penchant for short passing routes, and reads in the RO and RPO, I wonder if he incorporates some Run ‘n Shoot into his offense.  Run correctly (Gilbride tried with the giants but he was no Mouse Davis or June Jones), the WR reads the defense and has two route options depending on what the defense shows. All of this is dependent on Hurts standing up and not crouch and pulling the trigger faster.  Motion might help with the latter.

Alright...question for the dog days of the offseason.  Give a name for each of the following:

Unheralded player to surprise: Jack Stoll

Solid player that takes the next step towards high end/stardom: Landon Dickerson

Established player that disappoints: Jalen Hurts

Most improved 2nd year player: Kenny Gainwell

Player from the last 2 drafts that disappoints: Quez Watkins. Through no fault of his own, but moving down the depth chart in an offense that rarely gets to the 3rd and 4th read, and the QB forcing the ball to his BFF, Quez will just not have the opportunities this year.

2nd year improvement: Watkins

Draft disappointment: Reagor

2022

Surprise:  Calcaterra. 1.) Heralded TE prospect before his brief retirement; 2.) experience with Hurts.

Solid player with the next step: Epps.  Seemed to be improving as last season went on.

Diappointment veteran:  BG. Harder to come back at his age.

2nd year improvement:  Milton Williams. Excels in three DT lineups where Reddick requires attention and G can’t handle Williams one on one.

Draft disappointment: Nakobe Dean, fourth LB in rotation doesn’t see a lot of snaps this year. (We’ll grab him as second year improvement next year.)

Unheralded player to surprise: Davion Taylor - He really looked good in the game against Denver.  It would be nice for him to be in the top 3, replacing TJ this season.

Solid player that takes the next step towards high end/stardom: Devonta Adams

Established player that disappoints:  Bradberry

Most improved 2nd year player: Zech McPhearson

Player from the last 2 drafts that disappoints:  Grant Calcaterra, I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't make the roster which would be somewhat of a disappointment.

Unheralded player to surprise: Noah Elliss -> Nobody is really talking about him. He was good in college and because of COVID and injury, he ended up as a UDFA. I think he will make the team and be a factor in relieving Davis.

Solid player that takes the next step towards high end/stardom: Landon Dickerson -> I think he might end up being one of the best guards in the league next year.

Established player that disappoints: Fletcher Cox -> would not be surprised if he was cut or traded at the end of training camp. If he does make the team I don't think he will do much. Just feel like he is on his last legs.

Most improved 2nd year player: Arryn Sippos -> Makes up for a bad year last year.

Player from the last 2 drafts that disappoints: Kenneth Gainwell -> While he should be starting, I think they will run Miles Sanders into the ground and limit Gainwell's touches, which will be a mistake IMHO.

You should send him a venmo request for $50 now.

Unheralded player to surprise: Marcus Epps. Someone has to win the safety jobs, and with playing time we’ll hopefully see some players elevate their game.

Solid player that takes the next step towards high end/stardom: Kyzir White. I thought he was great for the Chargers, can’t believe we got him for so cheap, and the talent around him will elevate his stardom in the NFL this year.

Established player that disappoints: Miles Sanders. I don’t see this offense as a long term fit for him as the primary back.

Most improved 2nd year player: Landon DickersonAnother year between Mailata & Kelce and away from his injury should show a nice improvement.

Player from the last 2 drafts that disappoints: Grant Calcaterra. I don’t recall a player with Concussion issues suddenly overcoming it and ascending his talent.

Unheralded player to surprise: I like Noah Ellis, he's about the only guy on the roster that can match Davis size at NT.

Solid player that takes the next step towards high end/stardom: Dickerson, I think he makes pro bowl.

Established player that disappoints: AJ Brown, I don't think Hurts gets him the ball enough to justify his salary.

Most improved 2nd year player: Gainwell I think he gets more touches

Player from the last 2 drafts that disappoints: Smith, with addition of AJ brown and hurts inability to get to his 2nd read I'll be disappointed, no fault of Smith.

Unheralded player to surprise — Cam Jurgens.  Might be this year’s Dickerson

Solid player that takes the next step — DeVonta Smith.  Could be 1,000+ this year

Established player that disappoints — Haason Reddick.  Won’t get to 10 sacks

Most improved 2nd year player — Landon Dickerson.  Hopefully gets some Pro Bowl votes

Player from the last 2 drafts that disappoints — Zech McPhearson.  Not much playing time again

I could be wrong but isn’t Jurgens strictly center? That would mean Kelce gets hurt or Jurgens plays RG.
