Every year we see up and downs for both sides of the ball in TC.  Offense usually starts slow because of the need to get timing down.  As E45 says, we have no idea what was being installed. We also don’t know if errant throws resulted from bad routes by the receiver.

I'm sorry I brough such a depressing topic into the blog.  A little back story without too much detail. I met my friend 12 years ago during an AF commissioning program. He was on top of the world

Good thing they’re having him gain weight to drop back more

Not trying to overreact but it's interesting that after two training camp practices (out of the only 10 or whatever they have) DeVonta Smith has 0 catches and only 2 targets in team drills.

He's mostly matched up with Slay which could be a reason why, but the concern of him being the odd man out during the season is something to watch.

You know this is coming from me....but wouldn't having as many OTA's ad minicamps as possible help with all of these timing issues so they can hit the ground running during TC?  That's my whole gripe with not holding OTA's.

Seeing Metcalf re-sign and Deebo likely re-signing too, while the Eagles didn’t trade for the best WR this off-season, I think they traded for the WR with the best combo of youth and ability.

Also important to note the WR we got is a pro bowler that never had an all-pro QB throwing to him. It’s almost implausible Adams and Hill live up to their contract numbers without those guys

Hurts is ready to go - he is in mid-season form.

That Hill trade IMO will be bad for both teams. Chiefs every time I've seen them without Hill, they look like a completely different offense. He opened up everything for them. And his world class speed is wasted with rag arm Tua who has an even weaker arm than Hurts.

But at the same time, if you were to ask what coach will mitigate the loss of their WR the best, Andy Reid is a pretty good answer.

I think there’s a difference between running a Tyreek Hill-centric offense and not having him out there, vs building an offense from the ground up in the offseason that never expected him to begin with

Oh no. If he doesn’t get to 30 TDs we are doomed. ….. DOOMED!

It's not out of the question to discuss cutting Hurts when they get down to 53 if he can't reach his 30 training camp TD's.

I think that's a fair question because that Washington team was a juggernaut and Kotite wasn't better than Gibbs.  I do think Randall gave them a much better chance. As good as Washington may have been, it wasn't like they walked over the Eagles.  They split the series scored 23 and 22 points.  The Eagles went through 3 QBs in the first game and I think that's when McMahon went down.

Gannon used players out of position on the DL all last year, so I would be 0% surprised if Reddick is dropping into coverage more than he should be.

Teams we're shutting down the Hill big play and it was hurting the chiefs looking for the home run.

I think the Chiefs trade was brilliant. The capital and money savings they got from that deal allowed them to get...

MVS, Juju, Skyy Moore, McDuffie, Karlafatis and Justin Reid.

Thats 3 starters on both side of the ball for 1 guy.

If they all can play it was possibly a good deal. But man that Hill Mahomes combination was what they went to whenever they needed something. And yeah there were some games/drives where teams were able to scheme it away, but also it seemed like it was also a combination that bailed them out of so many struggling moments too. In the SB vs the Niners. Vs the Bills last year. That Allen drive looked like a dagger. Then a couple plays later Hill takes a basic cross over the middle to the house. He's just ridiculous

Gannon is a question for me. Middle of the pack last year, he got the talented he wanted so I expect nothing less than a top 10 defense

NS isnt a question for me. He showed/schemed guys open the first 7 games and our QB couldnt find them/read the defense. Then did a 180, ran a dumbed down high school offense and won a lot half way through the season.

QB is still a question for me. Like who are we gonna get, or what are we gonna do. Hurts isnt the answer for me, I dont like any of the 2023 draftees and I dont want a KURT* Cousins type player rewash

Wasn't it recently reported he gave up play calling when they started running the ball more last year? I'm probably mixing reports

Sucks for a guy to play 8 of his 10 years as a Redskin and he can't be acknowledged as that.

With that being said, has there been a worse Eagle?

C’mon Zach, that’s a Bo Wulf take.  Any time Reddick isn’t rushing the QB, on a passing play, the Eagles probably win more downs than they lose because they probably disguised a blitz or a coverage.  Fact Gannon supports Reddick’s ability to drop in coverage is good.  It gives the opposing QB and OC more to think about.  Tampa Bay used that masterfully in the wild card game.

My concern is that Gannon's defense had terrible sack numbers last season.  They were terrible in the red zone and pathetic against good QBs.  Taking a top 10 sack producer and dropping him in coverage on any kind of regular basis is a bad idea.  He should maybe drop 2-3 times at most a game and that's if they're in mostly 3-4 looks and he's getting 80% of the snaps.

Yup, that skins team was stacked yet they still split with an eagles team without Randall.

Who knows what could of been🤷‍♂️☹️

Jalen Hurts and the first-team offense in general had a rough day. There were a lot of incompletions, some broken plays that led to scrambles, and some missed throws.

The lowlight of the day was a Hurts pass into a mess of defenders that was picked off by Avonte Maddox, who made a leaping grab. If I'm being honest, from my vantage point it wasn't really even clear who the pass was intended for.

Miles Sanders looks explosive. He had some juice of several of his runs, making sharp cuts and flashing acceleration.

Haason Reddick dropped into coverage quite a bit today. Earlier this week I published the 25 things I'll be watching in training camp, and how much Reddick dropped was a part of that. Just because he is dropping into coverage often in camp doesn't necessarily mean he'll be doing a lot of that in games, and really, it would make some sense to have him work on his drops during camp, since we already know how well he rushes the passer.

• Second-year cornerback Mac McCain had a nice day. He broke up a pass intended for Jalen Reagor that bounced off of McCain and landed in the arms of Davion Taylor for an INT of Gardner Minshew. Reagor slipped on the play. Later McCain had a pass breakup on a quick slant.

• Taylor did some nice things as well. In addition to his pick, he was all over Boston Scott in coverage on a pass that landed incomplete.

James Bradberry had a nice pass breakup while covering Reagor. Seeing a theme here? The defensive backs dominated receivers today. Reagor in particular had a lot of passes come his way that ended up incomplete.

A.J. Brown had a drop on a short throw. Drops were an issue for Brown in 2021.

• Undrafted rookie free agent Carson Strong hasn't gotten much in the way of reps the first two days of camp, however, some time is carved out for the third- and fourth-stringers at the tail end of practice each day. Strong launched a moonball deep down the left side of the field to Britain Covey that was on the mark, but Covey could not make the play. Dude can rip it. He probably has the best arm of all the Eagles' quarterbacks.

No probably about it, Strong definitely has the strongest arm on the eagles roster
