Hot Take

Dolphins wind up drafting in the Top 10 again.

Not sold at all on Tua. Even with Hill pairing up with Waddle.

And they'll be without that 1st round pick after today's ruling.

When picks are taken away like that, how does that work? Wouldn't it mess up the order?

They still have a 1st acquired in a trade from the 9ers, and an extra 3rd they got from the Pats.

I don’t want Syndergaard, unless it’s a steal.

If the angels don’t deal him they are dumb. He’s a FA at years end and when he leaves he’s not good enough for them to get a pick when he signs. Basically out of a wild card race. They’d essentially be eating the rest of the contract and getting no value for a guy who has been ok with a 3.83 era.

Not really that hot of a take.  That trade for Hill was dumb.

Lukewarm Take

Great name. Bad luck on the injury front. Career might go up in smoke

No.

Just trying to figure out what a no name no one care about 7th rounder could do for 6 games. When a top tier, name in the headlines, special judge gave him 6 games for sexually assaulting dozens of women.

6 games is the standard for first time failing PED policy.

I believe he does.  The question though is how many of those yards are YAC.

Yes, exactly

Not sure that he does to be honest.

Of course I'm okay with that if he has 10-12 TDs

Eh it’ll be close, probably. I think Smith has more yards

Hate to tell fans but dude is on my team, which means the Phillies are screwed, and a volcano may appear in Citizens Bank Park…, soon.

Weird trivia:

he has the second best ypc in the NFL since he came into the league. Only Adams higher

I agree.  The better teams would beat the lesser teams probably 75 to 80 times out of 100 but no way 99.

Even really good teams might have a bad week once or twice a season when playing inferior times.  It happens.

Yep. This guy understands math. 99 out of 100 might happen in college if Alabama is playing some weak team from a lesser conference. But in the NFL, hell no. Not even close. A 10-1 team against a 1-10 team would probably be about a 90-93% favorite. Which, as you know since you understand math (unlike other people) , is a far, far cry from 99%

Would be nice if he could play more than one position, not saying I know he can't, just that he hasn't shown yet that he can

Tough to keep a guy as a backup who only plays LT.

Good thing Mailata can swing when Johnson goes down again.

Maybe they could use OTA's to cross train players in the event of injuries or to get the most out of high investments rather than not having any practice at all.

I would love to see Dillard just train at RG and drill it in to his head.

They've been practicing in pads for three days and the hot takes are coming hot and heavy.

Geez.

Nattering nabobs of negativity abound.

Yeah. 3 hours in pads means they’ll have a ton more time to get better before not playing in the preseason.

I do find it interesting that perhaps their best team game (especially if you weight QB play heavily) last year came in week 1.  Yes, it took them several weeks after week 1 to figure out the best way to run their offense, but that's a well-documented loaded situation.  They came out of the gates fine (for what they were capable of), so I don't think it was a terrible indictment of their style of camp/practice/preseason.

I'm skeptical of it as well, but I'm not convinced they are wrong for it.

I thought Day 5 was Jalen Hurts' best performance of training camp so far. His highlight of the day came on a deep ball to Jalen Reagor, who was running a post route. Reagor beat Zech McPhearson and Andre Chachere on the play, and the pass was on target. I didn't take note of where Reagor caught it, but I'd say it was roughly a 50-yarder. Hitting the quarterback is sacrilege in training camp, so Hurts didn't have to fear getting hit on the play, but it's worth noting that he had the mammoth Jordan Davis bearing down on him on the throw.

Hurts also made a nice window throw over the middle to A.J. Brown, who extended his arms in traffic and plucked the ball out of the air with a nice hands catch. The ball had nice zip on it, and good placement.

And then finally, I don't know if this play counted, but Hurts gathered a bad (low) snap that was on the ground, squeezed through a hole in the line and threw before crossing the line of scrimmage, completing a pass to Reagor (I think?) along the left sideline. Jason Kelce whooped in approval of the improv play.

Hurts verdict: Stock up. 📈

We haven't yet mentioned Reid Sinnett, but I've been impressed with him so far. He has decent arm strength, and has been pretty accurate. Sinnett is very clearly ahead of Carson Strong at this point, and I imagine Sinnett will get the most work of the four quarterbacks in the preseason games.

Today Sinnett made a strong sideline throw to Devon Allen with good ball placement where the corner could not get a hand on it. However, Allen dropped the pass. This is probably where I should also note that while Allen is a fun training camp story given his status as a world class hurdler, he hasn't impressed through the first five practices as a football player.

There isn’t a single team in the league that would beat another team in the league 99% of the time.

Let's go beyond the NFL and beyond football, for fun, for a second.

I agree, no NFL team is beating another NFL team 99 times out of 100.  The league has parity.  BUT...the sport itself, I would argue, has less parity.

Average NFL team vs Alabama...100.  Alabama vs. Upenn...100.

Baseball?  Average MLB team vs. Vanderbilt with their ace on the mound, one game in July?  That's not 100.  Vanderbilt vs. Upenn?  Not 100 either.

Basketball?  The NCAA tournament confirms that #1 vs. nobody is not 100/100.  Average NBA team vs. NCAA champ...that's 100.

Go Birds made an interesting observation that at camp Devonta Smith hasn't been targeted as heavily as the other WRs.

Its camp so it could be nothing, but Hurts is not the type of prolific passer that can spread the ball around and keep everyone happy. Not to mention AJ and Dallas just got paid, but Smith gotta get his.

If Reid Sinnett is better than Carson Strong, Im all for it.

But I hope the eagles find a way to ensure we have Strong at least another year.

If the health was truly that much of a red flag that its what caused him to go undrafted, then any team that brought him in should have seen him as a multi-year project with the potential to spend year 1 rehabbing or possibly getting another surgery.

The guy is no doubt the most talented QB on this roster regardless of who is preforming best right now. Would be crazy not to give him time.

The fact that he's being outplayed by Reid Stinnett seems to indicate that health wasn't the only reason that he went undrafted.

Only so many balls to go around when you only practice for an hour.
