Marlon Tuipulotu has been getting some love the last few days (as well as first team reps). Since Ellis didn't work out at all it would be nice if he could step up to be the 4th DT. He's got an opportunity for a strong basically a rookie season.

Only so many balls to go around when you only practice for an hour.

Has any beat writer said that he has?

well, we know Hurts has not looked good, and Sinnett has been talked up. So we can draw that conclusion.

Not really.  You read these practice reports and they often mention on a day that while Hurts might have struggled that none of the other QBs looked that good either. There has been no indication by anyone who has attended these practices that Sinnett has been better.  There have been multiple instances of them outright saying he's been better than Strong though.

Huh?

Bad luck, I’m known for it.  Not in a everyday normal sort of way, I mean literally.  Marcus Hook Sunoco refinery?  It was there about 100 years, I showed up and it closed quickly, same for the Philly one soon after.  I’ve closed more businesses than Covid, those two are nothing compared to my overall body of work.
Trent Green tore his ACL 20 minutes after I drafted him, Kurt Warner stole his spot and the rest is history.

I thought Day 5 was Jalen Hurts' best performance of training camp so far. His highlight of the day came on a deep ball to Jalen Reagor, who was running a post route. Reagor beat Zech McPhearson and Andre Chachere on the play, and the pass was on target. I didn't take note of where Reagor caught it, but I'd say it was roughly a 50-yarder. Hitting the quarterback is sacrilege in training camp, so Hurts didn't have to fear getting hit on the play, but it's worth noting that he had the mammoth Jordan Davis bearing down on him on the throw.

Hurts also made a nice window throw over the middle to A.J. Brown, who extended his arms in traffic and plucked the ball out of the air with a nice hands catch. The ball had nice zip on it, and good placement.

And then finally, I don't know if this play counted, but Hurts gathered a bad (low) snap that was on the ground, squeezed through a hole in the line and threw before crossing the line of scrimmage, completing a pass to Reagor (I think?) along the left sideline. Jason Kelce whooped in approval of the improv play.

Hurts verdict: Stock up. 📈

We haven't yet mentioned Reid Sinnett, but I've been impressed with him so far. He has decent arm strength, and has been pretty accurate. Sinnett is very clearly ahead of Carson Strong at this point, and I imagine Sinnett will get the most work of the four quarterbacks in the preseason games.

Today Sinnett made a strong sideline throw to Devon Allen with good ball placement where the corner could not get a hand on it. However, Allen dropped the pass. This is probably where I should also note that while Allen is a fun training camp story given his status as a world class hurdler, he hasn't impressed through the first five practices as a football player.

Can we start calling Jordan Davis "Bear Jordan” ???

I think Nakobe Dean is going to be the standout player in preseason.  People like BLG saying he isn't really showing anything in camp but they I've read how he's blown up some screens and I don't think a training camp without tackling is where a LB can really shine.

Yeah. Its more relevant to talk about a competition between Sinnett and Strong. No one figures those guys are competing with Hurts.

If any QB was looking better than Hurts then it would be mentioned.  Instead it actually has been mentioned on the days that he played bad that none of the other QBs played well either.

I do find it interesting that perhaps their best team game (especially if you weight QB play heavily) last year came in week 1.  Yes, it took them several weeks after week 1 to figure out the best way to run their offense, but that's a well-documented loaded situation.  They came out of the gates fine (for what they were capable of), so I don't think it was a terrible indictment of their style of camp/practice/preseason.

I'm skeptical of it as well, but I'm not convinced they are wrong for it.

That first game vs Atlanta last season proved not hiring Arthur Smith was the right call.

Nah. Media has been trying to make Hurts a franchise QB. They wouldnt be saying a 3rd string QB is outplaying him.

I don’t think they’re getting enough snaps to form much of an opinion, to be honest.

Strong being "bad” doesn’t really matter all that much to me. His head is probably swimming right now while playing with scrubs whose heads are swimming as well. There probably isn’t any chemistry or much familiarity to build on with limited opportunities.

Based on perceived talent and his guaranteed money, I hope they carry him on the 53 and see what a year with a pro coaching staff and training staff can do.

Even if he maxes out as a solid to good backup QB, that’s a win for a UDFA.

100% agree.

Yeah makes sense.  Seems like a logical thing the media would all collectively do, make someone a franchise QB.

He has had a week of practices and it's hard to look good if scrubs aren't running the right routes, getting open, or making plays. On top of that quite a few offenses are behind defenses at this point. We'll see.

Hope this is not what Wentz was learning/doing in practice.

It’s been discussed in here for a few days.  And was brought up well before camp as a concern.  Could be trouble and a waste of Devonte Smith this coming season.

I think it’s one of the most obvious outcomes of this season. Hurts doesn’t go through progressions, Brown is his best friend, Goedert gets schemed open.. Devonta will have lousy numbers this season, people will call him a bust or a wasted pick, and it won’t be his fault. It’s a mess

What kind of old timey honkey tonk crap is this?

I was listening to NFL Radio tour of training camps today; they covered the Bills, Cardinals, and Eagles.  Most of it was all flowery crap in interviews (hope springs eternal in training camps) but during the Eagles segment they interviewed Hurts, AJ Brown, Reddick, Slay, and Howie Roseman.

During their interview with Howie they asked him about what went into the decision to acquire AJ Brown.  Howie said they "did a lot of work on him pre-draft, and wanted to move back up to draft him, but they didn’t have enough capital to do so”.

I’m almost hoping Howie was just spinning a yarn because this statement made very little sense to me other than coming away thinking they really moved around the board poorly.  AJ Brown went #51 and the Eagles had the #53 pick.  They couldn’t have moved up from #53 to 49 or 50??  When they moved up from #25 to 22 to select Dillard they gave up their 4th and 6th round picks (127 and 197) leaving them with #53, 57, 138, 167.  Thorson was a wasted pick at #167 and Shareef Miller wasn’t much better at #138.

I have to think they could have dealt a future pick to move up from #53 to select Brown, and Sanders likely still would have been there to take at #57 — the next RB went off the board at #70.  Instead Howie ended up taking JJAW at #57.

When you'd go to the games in the 70s,80s and 90s you would hear the echo of all the radios that people brought just to hear him call the game.

I think that is pretty f'ing good.  And I would jitterbug the crap out of you to that song on the dance floor.  You definitely would doff your panties back at my place after.

Oh, hey, yeah, so I got a little carried away there, being that you're a guy and all.  But still, you would give it up after I twirled you around to that one.  Who's your Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, baby? 😉
