Whether one likes it or not, we are all stuck with Hurts thru at least have of this year.  If he really sheets the bed, doesn't improve at all, and we are 3-5 or something then we could see a change.  Otherwise, it is Hurts or bust this year and we can then spend the offseason chasing a QB.

Buckle up for the ride...

Practice makes permanent. Hurts seems to permanently want to run instead of pass. If only there was a position in football where that would be ideal.........

It is only practice. It is stupid to get too high or too low over practice. This is no different than those that are gloating over Strong looking terrible. It is silly.

The point of practice is to try out different plays and to get back into rhythm.

Yep, people keep saying its only practice.

Some people subscribe to the old saying, practice makes perfect.

I am more of a perfect practice makes perfect kinda guy.

Many years ago I took up learning bass guitar. One of the very first lessons taught was practice makes permanent. In that, you can play any way you'd like, but if you practice the wrong technique, over and over and over again, it just makes the muscle memory set in, even if it's "wrong".

I don't mind mistakes in practice, and practice is definitely the time to screw up and try new things (like, oh, I don't know, staying in the pocket and throwing the ball). I don't even care if Hurts had a practice where he never once leaves the pocket, and throws 10 INTs. At least he could use it to learn from and try to be better the next time. Instead, in a 7 v 7, he's scrambling, the defenders can't hit him (though I wish one of them would, just once), and the play is a complete waste of time. Nothing learned, nothing to improve next time (especially when he does it back to back plays, like wtf man).

It makes me yearn for a Parcells type coach who would actually bench him for that kind of nonsense.

Lol, you mean you don't think Hurts will approach 5,000 total yards? Hater!

(For reference, Josh Allen put up 5,170 combined last year)

I approach this much like what BUF got out of getting a WR1 for Josh Allen.  In his 2nd season Allen was a 58.8% passer with 20 TD and 9 INT.  When Diggs arrived he went to 69.2% with 37 TD and 10 INT.

Howie and Nick are giving Hurts the opportunity to show that he can take the same jump.  He has a WR1 now in AJ Brown, a WR2 who won a Heisman Trophy in Smith, a top 5-6 TE in Goedert, a top 5 OL and a decent if unspectacular RB group.  When folks had the Dak vs Wentz debate the main discussion point with Dak was that he's operating with a finished product for an offense.  That's pretty much where Hurts is now.

Hurts has had two seasons in the NFL already.  By midway through this season there will be nearly 30 games of data on him as a starting QB.  He will sink or swim this season.

What nonsense.

No, you see Josh Allen improved and that's why Hurts will improve.

Shhhhh...Do you really want people on here to say Hurts just needs more practices to be a great QB?

4,800 yards, or 282 yards per game. Hurts had 262 yards a game last year. Not sure why you think him reaching that is impossible, but let's revisit this in a few months.

Oh... my bad.  They are right.  Allen proves all QBs will improve like he did.

I can name 100 qbs who generated 20 more yards a game from their first to second seasons as a starter, including Minshew.

Zahir white was pretty good last night.

From the Detroit game on, when the team went run heavy due to Hurts passing deficiencies,  he averaged 231 yards per game.

I see I triggered a few

What happens to his specialized contract if he gets suspended for more than 1 season? I know his contract was structured that if he was suspended this season then it wouldn't really impact the money much

https://dawgpounddaily.com/2022/04/14/2023-deshaun-watson-suspension/#:~:text=When a player is suspended,not occupy a roster spot.

When a player is suspended, the nature of a league suspension is to favor ownership, not the player. Few seem to believe that, but it is true. The player does not get paid, so the salary cap does not get charged. The player does not occupy a roster spot.

Looking at it objectively, it is a salary cap discount and an extra roster spot while your guy cools his jets and hones his game. There’s no injury risk. As long as you have a competent backup who can hold things together during the regular season, your guy is going to be even better when playoff time rolls around.

However, a hypothetical eight-game suspension in 2023 would save the Browns $25.9 million. That’s enough to afford an All-Pro defensive end for an entire season. Just as long as they get him back in time for the playoffs, it is probably a good thing.

John McMullen asked Denard Wilson (DB’s coach) how he makes sure all the corners get enough reps?  Wilson said "if they get 2 or 3 a practice, they have to make the most of it”.
So when Goodrich and the other bottom of the roster CB’s are getting torched in  preseason games,  at least we’ll know why.

How many of those 100 QB's had 25% of their "performance" done with their legs?

Just to give you some insight....

Lamar's best year combined was 4333(2019) and you think Hurt's is gonna beat that by 500 yards?

Lamar played 15 games that season and averaged 290 yards per game. Nice try though.

Don't remember this at all.  Reggie White and Clyde Simmons on the FG team.  Talk about team players.

How many did Jalen play last year?

Was Lamar's first season as the starter, was only 22. Lead the league in passing touchdowns, had a 66% completion percentage, also rushed for 1200 yards and 7tds.

...he didn't have to wait around until his 3rd rookie season to get it done ....

He's everything you Hurts guys dream of him becoming with his skill set, yet you wouldn't want him on your team lol

You bring up a great point.  Lamar Jackson has never played a full season, and missed 5 games last year due to injury.

Hurts has already missed games to injury.

So not only does he have to raise his play to match Lamar's best season production, he has to avoid the injury bug that hits running QB's earlier in their careers.

Bigger bodies than putting a TE on the end of the line... and their numbers were eligible.
