McDuffie would've ruined my night. I'll take it as is. Though if they were smart, they could've traded back at 18 to the mid/late 20's and gone with the defensive minded theme and really loaded up there.

I lean Brown and Jurgens, but it could've also been Ridley + Jermaine Johnson + Malik Willis. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

You're right, I am smart enough.

I mean it could happen , sure.  I think it won't, we'll see who's right.

As if moaning here would change that.

But I am amazed how negative someone can see our team right now.

Touche! 😃

Who said "moaning here changes that"? Just as an fyi being positive here doesn't change anything either. This is a message board nothing we do here has any bearing on the team.

Expect a visit from the fact police.

Just to point out in 2021 according to SI article (https://www.si.com/nfl/eagles/.amp/news/does-dead-money-mean-dead-in-the-water-for-eagles-in-2021) they led the league in dead money of 49.3 mil. This year according to over the cap they have 36.4 which is 5th. Not exactly great the last two years in that area (https://overthecap.com/salary-cap-space/). I’d have to look deeper but I’m guessing that’s close to top 3 in the league in 2021-2022

Apparently everyone has turned into the cowboys and looks at their franchise from 2 decades ago onward. I always look at it from 10 years. It gives you what they’ve been more recently in the past decade of football. What happened in 2002 likely isn’t how they’ve been run now as banner and reid are gone. Who had significant effect on that period of time. Since 2013 we haven’t had reid in the structure of the eagles. So in 9 seasons we’ve had 3 HCs and 78-66-1 (12th in the league) with 4 playoff wins (this year teams like Vikings, cardinals and broncos who are 1-2 wins behind could surpass them. Eagles are 1 win behind bulls, rams and colts. Good chance we stay right around 12th, which since 2017 they’ve been 12th) Thankfully we had 2017 happen because without it looks much worse at 65-63-1 and 1 playoff win.

No one is denying the plethora of deal money lately.  A bunch is Wentz, a bunch are from really bad extensions, and some from Howie's use of ghost years.

My argument has been those were a result of a failed attempt to keep the window open.  We have been in team building mode for the past two off seasons.  Different goals and tactics.  The FO seems to be doing a much better job at that.

Not that it matters a ton but what do you think our starting DT Line looks like?

Will it be Cox/Davis on 1st/2nd downs and Hargrave/Williams on 3rd down

Oh i don’t disagree with the first paragraph. 2021 dead money is significantly on wentz. Which is on wentz and the eagles for getting to that breaking point.

My biggest issue with the Eagles has been 2020 offseason. I said at the end of that 2019 season they needed to do a complete rebuild on defense and retooling on offense. They didn’t have the young players to sustain that run and eventually it was a house of cards that was going to collapse.  Instead they went out and spent money and gave away draft picks on guys who weren’t going to be here or going to be in their primes when they got out of the rebuild. And then they go ahead and tell me in a presser well they were going to do a rebuild but then the pandemic kicked, we saw three new coaches so  just scrap that idea. That’s been my problem. That’s not a good reason when you know you needed a rebuild and identified they needed it but decided to wait another year.

besides that, their early round drafting from 2017-2020 outside of goedert is a strong reason why they needed to do a complete rebuild. The early round drafting in that time period you have goedert maybe hurts and sanders (injury prone and who knows if he long term). Had 10 picks in the first 3 rounds of those drafts, you may have anywhere from 1 to 3 here long term impact starters. Add on Barnett, dillard and reagor all never panned out to what they thought. It is pretty hard to have 3 consecutive first round picks ( in 4 drafts one we didn’t have a first in 2018) and all not have long term futures here. Make any excuses we want for dillard like well mailata but he never made the jump they planned. If he did they would want to keep him desperately for long term or get great value for him in a trade. I’m guessing he goes elsewhere and is a solid starter. However I’m guessing with the grade they had for him and giving up extra picks that they believed he’d turn out to be better than what hes shown or just be solid

my issue is less about what they’ve done the last two offseasons since their 2020 collapse. I actually good with what they did last year and this past year draft and FA. However they still may or may not need a QB which comes to next offseason where you likely need to fix a majority of the starting secondary and eventually find slay’s replacement. Which may or may not put you in the same conundrum as this past offseason needing a QB but still needing to fix a large portion of the defense.

Gus Johnson should call every game.

That goes for Sixers games too.

Is Kate Scott as bad as all the little WIP clips make her seem? It's just her irrationally yelling Joel Embiid all the time.

In fairness I’m irrationally yelling at my tv during games

she is that bad. She does more annoying things other than just yell MVBIID

I would watch a game because Zumov was calling it  He just had a way of making the game exciting and making it a story.  I won't watch games because she's calling them.

IMO, she just makes the games unwatchable.  It sounds like she's trying way too hard.

Sixers would have been smart to give Tom McGinnis the job and work her in a few games but to go from a legend in Zumov to her was bad.

You know how I know it wasn’t revisionist history to say that Smith was better than Allen? Because I was saying it at the time! That was the year that one of my older sisters decided she wanted to learn more about football because her oldest son was starting to show an interest in the Eagles, and she wanted to be conversant with the sport. And I remember very specifically discussing with her how good Ben Smith was at that very moment and compared him to Eric Allen in a superior manner.

No revisionist history with me on this one.

That's cool, I was alive then saw them both play, Ben Smith had he never got hurt may have been an all pro or pro bowler, both things Eric Allen was, his best season as a pro was his 2nd season where he only played ten games before being hurt, he had 2 Ints at that point that year and 3 as a rookie, I think where Ben Smith excelled was as a tackler where as a rookie he had 91 total tackles which is really impressive total for a corner.

By comparison Eric Allen had 72 tackles the following year which was a career high for him

Mind you the next year 93 Eric Allen was finalist for DPOY with 6 Ints 4 Tds which led the league and also led the league in I t return yards, plus added two sacks And 62 tackles, he lost to Reggie White who won dpoy with the Packers.

Could Ben Smith have reached that level of play🤷‍♂️ who knows we'll never know but Eric Allen did, also Eric Allen on that 91 defense was covering teams top WRs Ben Smith was not, though he was a heckuva a ayer and could have been great I think Allen was better and at that point better.

Eagles will be priced out of this one, but go with the "we monitored the situation" routine.

Did they? Was trading up with 3 picks to take Davis over Hamilton a good choice? Was taking a center in the second round a good choice? Was taking Dean who a lot of teams passed on a good choice? Obviously most Eagles fans have convinced themselves they all were. But it's premature to really say either way

In my opinion, absolutely. Improving your interior Dline should always take precedent over improving your safeties.

Jurgens we won't know this year unless he plays G. Dean I have this gut feeling is going to quickly become a fan favorite.

I think we run much more 3-4 over or under as a base, with a 5-2 alignment as well...and heavy rotation.

So, 3-4 for example may look like

DE NT DT/DE OLB

OLB MLB MLB

I would imagine that would be

Graham Davis Cox/Hargrave Reddick

White Edwards Dean

Help me out here buddy...

Wasn't there someone on this board in particular that used to complain a lot about Nick Foles and the way he would "float" deep passes?

Ironic, yeah?

Don’t be so sure. If other teams were willing to pay any price he would already have been traded apparently.

Why wouldn't FOX just give Peyton Manning similar money to Brady? At least Peyton has proven on Manningcast he's really Fing good. If Brady sucks as an analyst, which wouldn't be surprising because he seems to have a drier personality, then what a disaster that contract will be.

2 hours ago, Connecticut Eagle said:

Please elaborate on "trajectory".

What trajectory was evident during the 2017 offseason?  What about the trajectory during Andy's tenure?

Andy's tenure was clearly a trajectory of improvement where they were limited in the playoffs by a weak passing game when they got to the most important games.  Strong defense, good ball control and doing enough to win offensively, but outside of 2004, the passing game was mostly meh.

There was no trajectory for the 2017 team.  It was an anomaly.  Those happen, but they aren't a blueprint for building long term.  They literally hit the lottery with a bunch of minor moves and players having career years all aligning perfectly, not too different from the 1993 Phillies, only without the Joe Carter home run to ruin everything at the end.  Wentz had a career year.  Foles had a 2 game stretch unmatched in Eagles' playoff history.  So, they got stellar play at the most important position in football and at the most critical times... sprinkled in with just a little luck (61 yard FG, Julio Jones letting the ball slip through his hands at the end of the divisional round... the doink off the Falcons' DB's shin before halftime to set up a FG, etc.). No trajectory at all.   Lightning in a bottle.

We're going to be in nickel 70%+ time, right? So, I think you need to hash how many snaps go between 3DL+Reddick+2LBs -or- 4DL+2LBs.  3LBs off the ball I don't think will be very common.
