I think it’s amazing how many different tips, tricks and techniques are out and about in the smoking world. I feel like everyone I either watched or talked to has some sort of twist on something. It’s really an art.

Not as big a turnoff as a Megan Fox, right?

I was just watching some AJ Brown highlights out of sheer boredom and had some thoughts.

He’s was my favorite WR in that draft and I’ve coveted him for a long time. I wasn’t thrilled with the compensation at first, but now that the dust has settled, I’m glad to have him on the team. But it kinda worries me.

Much has been made about his friendship with Hurts and, on paper, being a YAC guy, he seems like a perfect WR for Hurts not being a prolific passer. But watching his highlights, most of his big plays came going across the middle or on go routes, two things Hurts doesn’t do well. But what I worry about is Hurts locking in on Brown and force feeding him the ball. Devonta was open A LOT last year and didn’t get the ball. This year, one of those two will have single coverage on every play. With this O-line, and Goedert, even a decent passer should be able to eat defenses up. I, like everyone, hopes Hurts takes a big step, but I don’t want either he or Sirianni to try to scheme YAC instead of being able to utilize two good route runners.

For whatever reason in my younger days I would skate board with my right foot forward and snowboard with my left foot forward and I can’t even imagine doing either differently even though both is basically the same thing.

Same. I also picked up pool lefty and write and play every other sport with my right.

I had the same thought about adding any WR this year. It's hard to spend money on a spot that we struggled to produce with. In the end, either Hurts is productive or he is replaced next year and he'll be a good target for years to come, Hurts or not. They are doing what they can to help him succeed. The rest is on him.

^ This exactly.

I have a bit of a conspiracy theory on this.  This years QB draft class is horrid.  I'd be surprised if any of these guys became good reliable starters.  Howie and all of the Eagles scouts knew this.  They also know that it would be hard to trade Hurts simply because of how saturated the QB trade market is (Baker Mayfield, Garropollo are still looking for homes...), so they are waiting a year.  Jalen gets this year to "see if he can be the guy", but if / when he can't then he gets traded in a better market next year and we end up with a top QB next year.

I think pretty much all of us outside of RTK have the same conspiracy theory

I’d still trade him for pitching or a centerfielder if possible. He has 1 year of arbitration left. He’s also a boras client so he’s going to ask for more than he’s worth. Plus when he starts his next contract he’ll already be 31. I’d move bohm to first and use hoskins in a deal.

Best chicken nuggets/fingers you’ve had… And go…

Believe it or not, Hardee's makes really good chicken fingers.

Smith wasn't that wide open last year, he struggled with press coverage and physical CBs at times. Watkins was often lost in his routes, and Reagor dropped a number of catchable balls and didn't run good routes.

So it wasn't like Hurts could drop back and be confident his receivers were going to be where the play was drawn up. Nor did his WRs always do a good job of getting open when he scrambled - problem with an inexperienced group - veteran WRs know when to break off routes and come back to the QB.

Part of the problem was Sirianni was feeling out his whole offense, he didn't know what he had in Mialata and Dickerson and Driscoll/Herbig on the OL, he didn't know Hurts' strengths and limitations, or have a chance to coach up his young WRs.

The switch to a run heavy offense wasn't just about Hurts, it was also about trading Ertz (making Smith a primary option and Watkins the #2), which took a TE out of the passing game in the 1-2-2 formation, or forced them to rely on Reagor in a 1-1-3. And about the growth of Mialata and Dickerson and the return of Lane - suddenly he's got the best run blocking OL in the NFL - he'd be pretty stupid not to take advantage of that. Especially given how piss poor the defense was against any decent QB.

It'll be interesting to see how things look this fall, with Brown, they have a proven commodity at WR, taking the pressure off Smith, Watkins has another season under his belt, and Pascal gives you a reliable if limited target. Reagor won't see the field if he doesn't make big strides this summer. Gainwell should be stronger and more comfortable - which will allow him to play a bigger role in the passing game. Sanders is in his contract year and has a lot to prove, but he can be a dynamic receiver out of the backfield.

Hurts will have to take advantage of a better offense, but it will also make it easier on him to have more reliable targets, and receivers who have a better understanding how to respond when Hurts buys time (which is the real value of athletic QBs, making plays when the protection breaks down).

Cutting Herbig was an interesting move, they wanted to save the $2M, but it was also a statement from Stoutland that he had maxed out Herbig, the same way he maxed out Pryor, got them to play at a passable level but there was no upside - though note was is passable here started in Indy.  I think this was a vote of confidence in Driscoll, Opeta and Awosika. Though the wildcards will be Dillard and Jergens. Dillard has bulked up, if he can play RG, they'd be the opposite of most teams, who are athletic on the left side and power on the right side - if he shows he can handle the job, Howie will sign him to an extension by game 6. Jergens isn't this grossly undersized center like Linderbaum, 6'3 303, he's got 33 1/2 arms, 10" hands, 25 reps at 225, which is normal for an athletic guard - you don't have to do a lot of bulking up. In fact, he's the same size as Seumalo as a rookie, but more athletic. Remains to be seen if Seumalo is 100% back from the liz franc.

The three UDFA OL are fighting it out for admission to Stoutland U (the practice squad).

1 - Fletcher Cox -  No - but he will retire and come back to play over the next 5 seasons- In 2042, the Eagles will still be carrying dead money from those deals.

2 - Javon Hargrave - Hargrave is reportedly on the market and Howie is holding out for a 2nd round pick - get traded at the deadline for a 6th and some no name safety that we over analyze.  No name safety starts 2023 despite being JAG.

3 - Jordan Davis - in 2025 after a hold out in training camp.

4 - Milton Williams - Gets mega extension in 2024 right after Devonta Smith leaves so Howie can feel better about the 2021 draft.

5 - Marlon Tuipulotu - See above but still has not started a game for the team

6 - Renell Wren - Has 2 sacks in one pre-season game, makes practice squad 4 seasons in a row - not sure why he's not getting called up over that scrub Davis.

7 - Marvin Wilson - gets cut and is picked up by the Steelers makes it to three Pro Bowls in a row.

8 - Noah Ellis - Stands out with his monster size in the pre-season - we start envisioning a 2-6 defensive front anchored by Davis and Ellis in the middle with Sweat and Reddick playing joker like stand up positions.  Gannon runs the defense against the Titans and gives up 2 75+ TDs by Derrick Henry - Ellis is cut on the following Monday.
