I rewatched the 1st half just looking at the Jordan Davis snaps and he was still good. Got doubled about half the time. They were running away from him a ton. When he was single-blocked, he won all but one of his matchups. The only time he struggled was in traps and screens, where he would go too quickly into the backfield. That will come with time. Davis was good, but he's the kind of player that messed up the OL and needs other players to finish, which didn't happen often.

He was okay at the nose but wasn't great in 4 man fronts. Hopefully just an off night but you would love to see more athleticism. He didn't get moved at all, but wasn't an issue for the oline.

Really wonder what kind of messaging Carson Strong is giving the eagles in the meetings that has them not even caring to develop him. Little to no practice reps and no game reps. You can’t even make an argument to stash him away in IR because they don’t even have enough practice reps of the guy to see him make decent throws.

Bizarre.

The cuts only take them down to 80 before the last preseason game.

My bad.  I had it as 75 not 80.  I'll need to revise my list.

10 cuts to get down from 86 to 81

QB - no cuts
RB - Huntley (1)
WR - John Hightower (2)
TE - Rodgers (3)
OT - no cuts
OG - Clark (4)
OC - no cuts
DE - no cuts (Leo is player 81 as an International)
DT - no cuts
LB - Elliss (5)
CB - no cuts
Safety - no cuts

Actually a good block as it sprung the runner.  Looks like the type of situation where the player might have a hyperextended knee.  Usually NBD.

I agree. He didn’t extend or drive into the block. A smaller man hitting a bigger man had better be lower. It was scary but it wasn’t cheap.

Nothing about him really makes sense to me. If he’s so bad they don’t want him to play in meaningless preseason games, why is he on the team? If they want to IR him and stash him for a year why isn’t he on IR? Only thing I can think of is they want him on the PS and don’t want anyone to claim him so they aren’t showing anything which barely makes sense because they aren’t even giving him practice reps.

My assumption is he has been really bad in practice…maybe even a sub par attitude.  Sinnett may be a nobody, but he was with the team for half of last year.  If the coaches aren’t happy with Strong, then they may dig their feet in and keep Sinnett on the field due to seniority.

But being the #4 qb in those practices…with the way they practice…and not playing in PS…as you said, they aren’t even trying to bring him along.

And why go through those motions to be able to stash him on PS at that point?  Who cares if someone claims him?

As soon as he goes on IR he cant practice and he gets no reps.

Thats what makes the most sense to me. He is going to IR but they are allowing him to practice up  until that day comes.

There was a lot of chatter after the draft that Strong was unimpressive in the interviews and Xs and Os part of the evaluation process.

It would make sense that he can't even crack team practice reps if he can't grasp the playbook, it's either that or he just flat out stinks.

Either way the Strong hype train was one big fat nothing' burger.

Right but he’s not even getting practice reps anyway

Strong went undrafted for a reason. I don’t know what that reason is but the Eagles coaching staff obviously does.

hes getting some. which is better than none.

Of course they are going to prioritize the guy going to IR last.

The whole "they are hiding Strong to stash him on PS" narrative is also BS.

If the Eagles believe in a developmental player, (Mailata), they will give him a roster spot, especially if the guy likely to get it is Reid F'in Sinnett.

According to the Beats, Strong barely sees the ball in practice. Other than rookie camp, not much to evaluate. Hiding for the practice squad when he gets cut.

Why is it BS?  There are only so many QB reps and the #4 rarely gets any and the three doesn’t get a lot.

Some notes on what I saw today.

-- Cam Jurgens showed up again. Looks fantastic. Will be interesting to see if he can handle more confusing defensive looks if Kelce misses any time.

-- It's gonna suck when Andre Dillard walks next season and the Eagles get nothing. Seemed to insinuate during the post game interview that he's been talking to his agent about a trade. I'll believe it when I see it.

-- Beat writers are again taking camp performances too seriously. Read the beats and they'll tell you M Williams, Dean, and Gainwell aren't "standing out" and Tarron Jackson and Noah Togiai are ready to make an impact.

-- Josh Jobe has some long ass arms. I like him. Seems better than all the projects they brought in last year. Obvious has big game experience.

-- Exciting to see Devon Allen at top speed. Hope he follows up on this performance next week.

Carson Strong is the 2022 Nasty Nate award winner.

That doesn’t really explain much. They could think he’s not a developmental player worth a 53 roster spot but still like enough about him that they hope they can keep him on the PS

*edit*

to make that year 3 Josh Allen leap

The Eagles will have the opportunity to bring back either Sinnett or Strong onto the practice roster, whichever they choose.  I haven’t been impressed with Sinnett in either showing; he hit a wide open Allen for a TD but showed very little otherwise.  I suspect the game against the Dolphins will be Sinnett and Strong each getting a half.  A little surprised they brought in Strong with 3 minutes left to end the game.

The Eagles D couldn’t get off the field with Dobbs in the game.  Concerning, as he’s their 3rd string QB — the D should have been better overall today.

Damn

Great "how the sausage is made” insight though

It’s essential a trap block, just with a guy going faster. Trap blocks have been around forever. It should never come as a surprise to the defender. He sees the guy coming.

Not sure what Kayvon was even doing. He stops, lowers himself, and turns his leg into the contact. No way Moss expected him to do that. He actually hits his hip first and slides down to the knee because of the way he turned his leg.

Yup. This isn't a blindside block. The NFL used to let players cut block engaged defenders (ie, they were already being blocked). That changed after George Foster took out Tony Williams in a Monday Night game.

Call me crazy but I think Deion Cain will make the 53 man roster. Should be a good time to flip Reagor.
