He's a bum. Even more so than Reagor.

That's about as open as you can be in the NFL.

Agreed. I'd keep Covey too. He has the return and slot upside. Go with 6 receivers.

I think without a doubt he's earned a roster spot. Really comes down to a few things.

-Can they find a trade partner for Reagor?  This is the first chip to fall.  If Reagor is gone, it opens up a spot for Cain/Covey or both because Covey is your return guy.

-Are they keeping 5 or 6 WR?  If they keep 6 and Reagor is traded, Cain makes the team.  If they keep 6, Reagor isn't traded, Cain makes it over Covey.

-Can anyone else on the team return punts?  If they keep 5 WR, trade Reagor and someone else can return punts, Cain makes the team.  If Reagor is traded and they only keep 5 WR, Covey might get the nod.

I'm sure there are different scenarios, these just stick out to me.  One of the bigger roadblocks for Cain might be that he is essentially a poor man's Zach Pascal.  There's nothing wrong with having players with the same skillset at the same position but when it comes to maybe roster spot 50-53, the Eagles might be looking for a guy who offers a different dynamic or offers potential and they don't want him to get picked up.  Could be Covey as a returner or Allen's speed. At 26, Cain is what he is.

There are 4 locks.

Brown-lock WR1

Smith-lock WR2

Pascal-lock WR3, has outplayed Watkins in both games.

Watkins- lock WR4

Cain- WR5

Covey- WR6/return specialist

Ward- potential trade chip? 7th rounder?

Reagor- traded for RB/S

Allen-PS

Hightower- Burger King

The Ravens are exhibit A. why I think TE2 is a need for this team.  They already have a top tight end in Mark Andrews, one of, if not the best blocking tight end in Nick Boyle and yet they still go out and add Isaiah Likely.  Likely has stud TE potential and is already a mismatch.  They also added Charlie Kolar, who a lot were excited about pre-draft.  They could be 4 deep at TE.

You have to look at them as a trade partner for Reagor.  Either Boyle or Kolar could be expendable.  Boyle, while known for his blocking, is a bruising RAC TE.  Hasn't been healthy and is getting up there in age so doesn't make a ton of sense.  Kolar has talent but is stuck deep down the depth chart and recovering from sports hernia.

Would you trade Reagor for Kolar?

Let's say we can't find a trade partner for Reagor. Outside of Lowie's ego....what's the point in keeping him? He has a poor attitude, is a bad player, and will have extremely limited time even if he does make the final cut. I think we'd be far better off to outright cut him, and see what Cain/Covey could be.

I can't see the team going 6 at WR to keep Cain and/or Covey.

They love their lines and their own draft picks.

Meh...the Ravens are a limited passing team (and with healthy RBs this year, will likely pass even less). Andrews consumes a ton of targets, I think they expect a lot from Bateman...I don't think there's a lot of targets for Likely.

Just like here....we're already complaining there isn't enough targets for Brown/Smith/Goedert/Quez....you think it's really that important to add another pass catching threat that won't see targets?

Also, Likely was a late fourth round pick.  Probably at the top of their board at the time.  Doubtful that the pick was a strategic imperative.

the ONLY thing keeping Reagor on the team if they can't trade him is the cap hit IMO.

That's about as open as you can be in the NFL.

Taking the sack was a step in the right direction FWIW, and he's something like 16/22 in his 2 preseason outings.

How so? It's a quick hook, he should've recognized it and thrown it for an easy pitch and catch.

I haven't followed him at all this preseason, so 16/22 sounds fine. But this play, he missed on it far as I can see.

I get it as I'm one who complains about the targets and wasting high resources on guys who won't see their max potential with current QB.  I guess I'm just stuck on having a weapon at TE2.

Washington has Logan Thomas and brought in Cole Turner. Those two should be dominant in the RZ and down the middle of the field.

Dallas has Dalton Schultz, who I think gives Goedert a run for his money, and they brought in Jake Ferguson.  Ferguson is just going to be a good pro for a decade.

NYG.  Nothing to really look at there.  They signed Ricky Seals-Jones.

Point I'm trying to make is so many teams have LEGIT TE1/TE2 combos.  It allows you to open your playbook up.

When the Eagles bring Stoll in, I'd wager it's going to be a running play.  When Washington or Dallas lines up 2 TE, they have more play calling options.

Step in the right direction?  Taking a bad sack has been an issue of his dating back to his time here.

Here is a full size screen shot of that @TorontoEagle, safety goes deep with the WR, won't get a much easier pitch and catch than this.

I think we saw enough 2 TE sets to last us a lifetime at the end of the Douggy P era.

Logan Thomas can't stay healthy.

Schultz is solid, nothing special.

Ferguson and Turner haven't played a snap yet, and were late 4th and 5th round picks. Let's put away the anointing oil for them right now.

If Goedert goes down, yeah, it's a problem. But so would Kelce/Kittle/Pitts. Even Andrews would cause Baltimore problems, though as you noted, they have some nice depth on paper.

It's just so far down on the list of issues with this team, I don't think it's worth getting worried about honestly.

The All In Index. We are 21st, which feels right:

21. Philadelphia Eagles

Spending rank: 17
Draft rank: 23
Bottom line: The Eagles are sitting on quite the nest egg

If Jalen Hurts does not turn out to be Philly’s QB of the future, no team is in a stronger position to attract a top quarterback. Just like Tom Brady was attracted to the Bucs, Matthew Stafford sought to go to the Rams, and Russell Wilson waived his no-trade clause to go to Denver, the next disgruntled star QB should be attracted to the Eagles, who have positioned themselves as a top-tier destination like a bird building a beautiful nest to attract a mate. They traded a first-round pick for WR A.J. Brown to pair with 2020 Heisman winner DeVonta Smith, giving them a dank receiving corps and one of the NFL’s strongest offensive lines. And if no veteran quarterbacks can be found in the trade market, the Eagles have an extra first- and second-rounder from the Saints to trade up for one in the draft. And if Hurts turns out to be good, the Eagles can use those picks to round out a contender.

I know, not worried, just a want.  It's a luxury they don't need but I look at it as if DG goes down.  I guess they always have Dick Rod in their back pocket if needed.

My hope is they don't ignore TE in the upcoming draft as it should be LOADED.  If that's the case though, expect them to ignore.

Lol yeah, I get that. But we still have great WRs to pick up any slack of DG going down. And yeah, it seems every year, more and more good TEs are coming out.
