My best friend recommended this documentary to me and did not warn me, probably the saddest crap I’ve ever watched.

Yep. Watched it during my Peds ICU rotation so it hit even harder.

Something worth mentioning regarding the Eagles declining Dillard's fifth-year option. It does not preclude them re-signing him or extending him.  As I read it, had they exercised the option, they would have to pay him the average of the 3d through 25th highest OT salaries. Were he a starter that would be a no-brainer, but he's not. He could be, elsewhere. However, by declining the option the Eagles may well be able to retain him at a lower salary. They can always offer to match and it seems extremely unlikely to me that another team will blow the doors off on a guy who has played so little and missed a season due to injury.

Maybe they trade him. Maybe they keep him for 2022. And maybe they re-sign or extend him beyond 2022.

Just sayin'.

Are you ready for Skoronski (Northwestern) vs Mathis (Nebraska) today. Maybe the top OT in the draft going against a big time pass rusher.

Check it out if you have time. Im sure people will be asking you about Skoronski when we get closer to the draft.

Why would I?  I've been posting on the EMB since long before you started hopping from the Cowboys to the Eagles grasshopper.

Why do you have such a consistent negative reaction to optimism revolving the team's starting QB?

You think because I moved to Texas, I’m a transplant Cowboys fan? I moved here for a great job. You probably live off the government in your moms basement.

And you clearly don’t understand the difference between pessimism and realism.

McNabb was an athletic but raw QB who played in a read option system in Syracuse where he only read half the field, and took off if his man was covered.

Reid had to teach him the WCO.

McNabb peaked in his fourth season, he struggled the first two games with an injured thumb, then healed after a one week break that came early that season, the rest of the year he'd put up similar numbers as he would the next season after they added TO, and had that great PO game against the Packers.

He got injured in 2005, and like Wentz, once he lost some mobility, he slipped from a top 5-10 QB to the middle of the pack.

2001:   7th in QB rating (no QBR available)

2002:  8th,  2003:  16th,  2004: 4th, 2005: 18th, 2006:  4th, QBR 9th, 2007: 9th, 18th, 2008:  14th, 20th, 2009: 12th, 16th, 2010:  24th, 25th,

They managed to go to 5 NFC Championship games and 1 SB under McNabb with his limitations.

Great movie. True story. Ann Bancroft and Patty Duke both won Oscars. Originally a Broadway play with the same two actresses. They both won Tonys there too. Based on the life of Helen Keller.

I cry every time but it is not a sad movie. Quite the opposite.

I'll have to see if I can find it, I feel like I might of watched it in jr high or highschool...

I don’t disagree with anything here, but in my opinion, if he hits free agency, he’s gone. Eagles could match an offer but I think he will be paid well enough so that won’t really be a realistic option. If Vaitai can get $10M APY, Dillard will surely pass that.

re: RB discussion yesterday

Chase Brown is one to watch for Illinois. Not much else to watch today. Check him out. He runs like a manly man. A fast manly man.

I dont know. I love Bijan but there are probably too many good RBs this year to justify taking him round 1.

Building on justrelax's comments above, if you had to choose between the following two options as your starting OTs , which would you choose and why?

  • LT = Dillard RT = Mailata
  • LT = Mailata RT = Driscoll

Yup.

Crying is good for you, it releases toxins In your body.

A great man once said, one should cry and laugh at least  once a day...

The laughing part is quite easy most days and socially acceptable for men, the crying part is tough especially in a culture full of toxic masculinity.

Don't teach your boys not to cry, teach them not to make others cry!

I grew up hiding my tears and burying my feelings and all it did is lead to shame and bottled up emotions that eventually led to unproductive behavior with negative consequences.

Took 3 years of therapy for me to learn to love myself and be able to express my feeling wants and needs, which again therapy for men in our society has negative connotations as men seeking therapy are looked at as weak.

We're told to grow some balls and take it like man and be tough.

The last time a draft was considered stong at RB Howie waited then traded up for pumphrey.☹️

Hopefully it the RB class turns out strong he gets one preferably after the 1st and before the 5th.

What you call realism projected that Tom Brady and Dak Prescott and Rich Gannon and Joe Theismann and Bart Starr and Roger Staubach would never be winning QBs.   Let's wait and see how things play out this season before we shovel dirt on Hurts' caskett six feet down in the ground.

#2. Dillard > Driscoll, but I hate the idea of moving my franchise LT. This is also why I want to trade Dillard. If he can't play RT, he's just not that valuable as OT #3.

I just put my boxer down 2 weeks ago.  I'm a single guy, house to myself.  He was my partner and companion more than I realized it, especially with remote work the last few years.  I never realized how much it would hurt to lose him and boy did I let the waterworks go plenty of nights the last few weeks.  Like you said, we are men and we are taught not to cry so I tried to put a happy face on.  When I was home alone though....

Sorry to hear that that's rough

I had boxers growing up, they're great dogs and great buddies, my first one tore a hole through the fence took himself for a walk and got hit by a car, the police called me they had set him to the side of the road, he wasnt mangled or anything just no longer alive I picked him up all 75 pounds of him and buried him in my back yard😢 I was a wreck for a few weeks I would cry at every commercial that had a dog or was just a little sad, I ended up getting another boxer a couple months later and he lived to 10 he and I went through a lot together and he was always there for me.

I'm sorry for your loss man that really sucks 😢

Probably not worth looking at late round QBs. But Im going through that list I posted yesterday and this guy has potential.

He has a quick, compact release. His footwork is atrocious. He throws from awkward platforms. But the passes are pretty accurate despite that. His arm is good enough, and will be better if he can fix his lower half.

Realism and projection? What?

And I didn’t say Hurts is going to fail, I asked RTK if he would leave if he did.

Great time of year.  Other than a couple of things on streaming services, TV is all reruns and crap.  Today we have college football with teams we might otherwise never see like Howard, Idaho, Stephen F.Austin, Jacksonville State, Western Kentucky etc.  Have the DVR set up because these are games I will watch with the remote so I only watch the plays.  Things to watch over the next week.

Dillard/Mailata. Despite some obvious hiccups, Dillard still has elite athletic skills for the position. Although as time goes on, Mailata's position flexibility -- the ability to play on either the left or right side -- is diminishing.

Three days to cut downs.   Won’t be a lot of surprises for the Eagles but initially we have what I like to think of as fluid spots.  Three or four of them.  Basically, three players that aren’t the inactive OL (1 or 2 players depending on whether the Eagles keep 9 or 10 OL) but these players will be inactive, if on the roster, for the first game (baring a short term injury to a player that would otherwise be inactive).  Those can be developmental players like Mailata or Jackson last year.  Those can include a player that might be active because a player that is injured coming out of the PS will miss a game but not go on IR.  Those could be players that the Eagles will cut if they claim or sign a player another team cuts.  Those second cut players are usually easier to move to the practice squad.  These three or four players are rarely going to be selected for ST potential.  What good are a Covey or Huntley as returners going to be if they are inactive?

My guess for these players:

Marlon T.

Kyron Johnson

Kary Vincent, who may be active for either Jobe or Scott but holds the pleasurable likelihood of being the second cut position when Howie picks up a RB.

Appreciate it.  They are tremendous companions.  I never considered boxers as I thought they were a bit intimidating with the cropped ears....then I met a natural eared boxer and realized just how damn goofy and loving they are.  Absolutely wonderful for families.  I can't imagine getting a call that he got hit.  My guy was only 8 but had congestive heart failure.  75 pounder too.

You still aren’t making a point. Pessimism is "Hurts will suck” and realism is "Hurts hasn’t been good”

Roob has Hurts attempting close to 600 passes this year

Counter...

If he's viewed as good enough to be a starter elsewhere, the Eagles won't pay to match that salary if he's the backup swing OT... unless Johnson's health comes into major question.

If he's not viewed as a starter elsewhere, the notion of getting even a 2nd round pick for him in trade from Dallas or any other team is a moot point, because no team would offer that.

If he IS viewed that highly now, take the trade, because it is maximizing his value to this team.  Driscoll offers more versatility than Dillard as a swing player anyway.  Keeping Dillard, his max value will be a 3rd round pick in 2024, basically a 4th for that matter. Meaning, that pick is just outside top 100, give or take a handful of spots, and could be canceled out by another signing... roughly a top 5th round pick value equivalence in 2023.  Meanwhile, trading him for a second makes him worth roughly a top 50 pick... give or take a dozen.  Huge difference.

Fully agree with this. The challenge is if a team offers a 4th for him. That's on the borderline of decision-making. You could get a 4th round comp pick anyway (Eagles aren't signing a bunch of UFA next year with their cap situation).
