I had an account for my RE business and then I followed a bunch of sports related accounts.  I'll occasionally add political stuff, but I don't check Twitter very often on my own.  I usually end up in a Twitter hole from clicking a Tweet here and falling in.  It can be both parts entertaining and extremely depressing.

Facebook is the same way. It's pretty much a time warp.

They were protecting their property. How’s that not comparable? Also the week it happened it was news. It was posted a bunch in the thread along with others

the similarities stop at "they were protecting their property".

the people at the bakery were standing there, with their muzzles down, making it clear that they were there protecting. the St. Louis couple was brandishing their weapons, pointing them at people, and threatening them. they were pointing loaded weapons at people who were walking by their property. she had her finger on the trigger

how do you see the behavior as comparable?  the armed men at the bakery even engaged with the protesters, indicating they supported the protests but also wanted to protect their business.

if the couple had stayed on their terrace and just stood there, as the people with the bakery did, I don't think this would have been more than a local story. instead you now have images and video of them aiming their weapons at protesters and generally making it clear they don't know what they're doing with them.

finally, do a google news search on the Corbo Bakery Cleveland, and limit it to the last 6 weeks. there is less than one page of reporting on it, and a few of them are gun-rights articles that use Corbo Bakery as examples of people defending their business. there's already 3 1/2 pages of coverage on this couple.

I’m sorry I was under the impression the couple stayed on their property and was just on their grass when they moved closer. It looked like a big property in the images

The comparison I had was both were defending their property. How they hold the gun isn’t my argument

I remember someone posting a video on the old board showing how there’s a dark part of YouTube with kids. I was amazed it was there

as far as I know they never left their property. but they still were pointing loaded guns at people.

my argument was that if they weren't pointing their loaded guns at people, this story would not have gotten as big as it did. it probably would still have been reported, but it wouldn't have gotten near the traction without images and video of these two wildly swinging loaded weapons while at the the woman was demonstrating zero trigger discipline.

It's an interesting article if you have the chance.  It's not that YouTube has a political or social agenda itself (that I know of), but it is set up to maximize viewership and to keep people engaged as long as possible. Sounds reasonable and benign but as the algorithm tries to predict what you're interested in to keep your eyes on the screen, it tends to magnify small details in what you've watched and pull you down a rabbit hole into more and more radical ideology.  Different political/social/conspiracy/etc groups have even learned how to capitalize on predictive algorithms in various ways (and no, I don't believe it is just a right wing or left wing thing).  It's insidious and real Fed up.

Interesting dynamic at play here:

Not sure where this goes, but Dave has been pretty spot on these last few months.

I gotta admit about 95% of the barstool stuff falls flat for me.  I like to laugh - it’s just not my thing I guess...

Yup.

While I heard of it, I never went there.  Then Deadspin died, thankfully, and I became aware of Dave.  Visted it a few times and never went back.  The whole place seems pointless.

So there is one thing we agree on

Where do you guys find some of these things? What are you searching?

It’s all about the rabbit hole... you start on some mainstream feed and then a dozen clicks later end up on the feed of "garbage human.”

A dozen?  I think you’re being generous.

I didn’t watch the video or look into it at all. How do we know they were loaded?

No no. They keep a ranking of hotness of the teachers who get caught banging kids thread.

Who gives a f? The losers who have zero problem with domestic terrorists breaking into their property and threatening their lives, that’s who.

"domestic terrorists."

Get a grip. They were Americans exercising their right to petition the government for redress of grievances, passing through on the way to the mayor's office.

They weren't rioting. They weren't aggressive. They weren't threatening. They were literally walking down the street past these homes.

I understand the homeowners not wanting to take chances and being on alert. But pointing a gun at them? Really? You're defending that?

If this was a bunch of right wing protesters marching on the Gov. of Minnesota and some liberal started waving a gun at them as they passed by, and the protesters opened fire on the guy, you'd have half this board defending the protesters on "stand your ground" principles.

Jesus man, get some principles.

The Mayor's Office is literally on the other side of the city.....
