Watch the video. They didn't rip down anything to walk through. They literally opened a gate and were walking through to the Mayor's house a block away.

Unless the protesters were coming at the couple (which they were not) or trying to get into their home (which they were not).

https://www.kmov.com/news/experts-examine-whether-it-was-legal-for-st-louis-couple-to-point-guns-at-protesters/article_ef18bb82-ba77-11ea-8432-2b81e9df592a.html

that article is the most I could find, and it's hardly authoritative. but one item it does indicate is that the couple may have broken the law by aiming the gun at the protesters.

I know you wish it were so, but you cannot wave a gun at someone for trespassing. if they are actually threatening you - coming at you, trying to break into your home, or steal property outside it, yes you can use your weapon for self-defense. you can have someone arrested for trespassing. but you can't aim a gun wildly at them and threaten the protester with lethal force, even on your own property.

The article also notes that the homeowners said that there were protestors who threatened to kill their dog, come back to get them, and to burn their house.  It states that you can’t hear that being said in the videos that are available, but if those things were said, they would likely be okay with what they did.  I think they shouldn’t have pointed the guns, but it seems that they may legally be in the clear.

pretty sure it was a direct response to the Mayor doing the same to her constituents. That was the point

what could go wrong?

I doubt anything will move forward legally, honestly. There is too much gray area.

as much as i enjoyed the walking directions to the mayor's office, the protesters were marching to the mayor's house a block away from the mccloskey's house...not 4 miles away....a block away.

i know "the right" is allergic to facts...but that's what happened.

tbs, other than really sheety gun safety, i don't have a problem with the mccloskey's defending their home.

Yup, that is an important detail.

Also did they destroy that gate or was that previous group of "protesters" that prompted the residents response?

I don’t think we will ever know. What we do know is when they got there the gate was fine. When they left not so much. Who did it remains a mystery.

the gate, at least the one in the video, was intact when the first protesters started passing through.

the protesters were heading down the walkway/road in front of the grass, and the McCloskey residence was the first one on the right. the couple were out having a meal on their terrace/patio.

from the various videos, it seems the McCloskey's greeted the protesters by telling them this was private property and they were trespassing, and telling them to get out:

whether they're or wrong, some of the protesters did not appear to believe the street was part of the private property from this video:

you can hear some of them saying "we're not on your property", implying they believe being on the street was not trespassing. they believed they were acting within their legal rights passing through. ignorance is not a defense, but it still undercuts this idea that they "broke down a gate to invade the property, then threatened the property owners lives."

some of you want to assume the worst in the protesters. and you refuse to see how that in itself is part of the problem.

for my own part, I'm not making any assumptions. the video seems consistent with the stated intent from the organizers: they wanted to peacefully, but loudly and firmly, march through to the mayor's home and make their grievances heard. I did not see protesters trying to escalate this. I saw protesters taking video, and I heard protesters making sure people kept moving through peacefully on to their final destination.

I also am not making assumptions about the McCloskeys. I don't believe there was a racial component here. I do believe they overreacted a bit, but emotions were clearly running high. It is pretty obvious to me they need some training. they repeatedly had not only some of the protesters, but each other in the line of fire as they were sweeping the weapons around.

the protesters, as far as I can tell, made no indication that they had ill intent towards the McCloskeys or any other homeowners in the neighborhood. to me, that makes the McCloskeys incredibly irresponsible in how they were pointing those weapons and sweeping them across the protesters as they walked past.

I can understand the emotional reaction to defend them under this notion of "they were just protecting themselves and their home", but the issue here is that there was never any actual threat made. there is a TON of video, and nothing has surfaced showing any sort of threats being made towards the McCloskeys. one would think, by now, if there was a threat it would have appeared given how many were capturing and live streaming video.

I don't begrudge the couple for being concerned for their welfare and their property, and I don't even begrudge them for grabbing their weapons. it's when they started to aim the guns repeatedly in the direction of the protesters (and EACH OTHER!) that this turns for me. I have yet to hear from a single trained and responsible gun owner who can make any sort of defense of the way they handled those weapons.

The most "inclusive” sport in the United States. It’s not close...

And while I’m s***ing all over St. Louis, gooey butter cake is just a gross diabetes delivery system and fried ravioli is probably the most white trash food a city is "known for”.

Holy crap, that triggered a memory.  My girlfriend before schmoopie was.... a winner.  I'm trying to think of a diplomatic way to say "White trash know it all", so when I come up with it, I'll let you know.

Anyway, I had to go to St. Louis for orals (heh) to win some potential business (heh).  She went to St. Louis one time and said "Oh, they have great bbq.   You need to find this place called "Bandanna's", its the best.  Ok, cool.  I never been so I'm taking her word for it.   So I get to St. Louis, take a cab across the way into Illinois to the client site and get to the hotel where we were prepping for orals (heh).  As Im getting off the highway to get to the hotel I see Bandanna's  Lucky me, if we win this client, I'll be able to have this world famous bbq any day I want, I says to myself.  We did our presentations the same day the news chip kelly was hired.  So now I'm excited for BBQ AND the Eagles.

A little over a month later I get there and find out that Bandanna's is basically a local Boston market, but for BBQ.  Two weeks later, we break up and I can't say for certain that subconsciously the bbq was the final straw.  Still deciding if it was as bad as Chip Kelly.

She sounds like every girl I dated in college.  😂    I managed an Account Exec that was born, raised, and has kids in St. Louis.  The first time I flew in, he pointed at the Bandanna's near my hotel and said, "Don't ever eat there."

I forced him to take me to this place, because it was on Man Vs. Food.  Dumb show, but I like to watch it for restaurant ideas in different cities.  This place did not disappoint.  They were probably the best ribs I ever had in my life.  It's in a really bad part of St. Louis too, so I'm happy we weren't shot on our walk from car to restaurant.

Oh that'll be pure comedy gold. That is until the community-based, unarmed emergency responders start going to the ICU or the morgue.

Damn. I really wanted to see that black guy whip the white guy’s arse. Especially after he ripped the guy’s shades off, and even more especially since the white guy was wearing a Seahawks hat at first. He deserved beaten for that alone.
