1st year investment bankers in NYC and LA were paid a 55k salary back when I started; we all had roommates and couldn't afford to live solo. I think the starting base salary is now like 100k, but in NYC/LA that still means roommates. This doesn't include year end bonuses, but...can't use that for monthly rent. 

And those are the highest paying jobs around a college grad.
