BMI is a bad measurement, as healthy/muscular people will show as overweight or obese. Not sure we can get a body fat percentage on everyone, so maybe it is based on BMI, and you can challenge it if you think it is unfair. Waist\Inseam ratio.

I know some insurance companies have started lowering rates for people who workout and share the data -- like from an Apple Watch. You can now buy a Peloton with HSA dollars too. I've been telling Peloton management they should partner with insurance companies and see if they can get people a discount for riding 3+ times a week.

While we're overhauling the medical insurance system, we should also let them charge more for people who have a family history disease, monitor peoples use of alcohol, recreational drugs, etc.

This is a skit/satire right? Right? She said "looking at this through critical feminist lens." Also every person like this uses the exact same condescending tone, fake nice voice that immediately lets you know it's about to be insufferable.

Nobody held me down and shoved whiskey and burgers down my throat. I have the build of a welsh coal miner so even when I’m skinny I’m screwed with BMI. Back in my running all the time days even with a medium shirt I wasn’t less than 200. Calipers or the dunk tank is the way to go for more accurate measurements. I also think everyone should be tested for tobacco use. Granted I pop Zyns like they’re going out of style, and I don’t know of the health risks of just straight up nicotine, but yeah should absolutely be tested as part of figuring out premiums. I didn’t know that Pelotons could be gotten with HSA. I was thinking of just getting a cheaper bike and putting the sensors on it and using the Peloton app instead of getting the actual bike, but HSA dollars towards it helps. I keep trying to get back into running, but my joints aren’t what they used to be.

They are also selling the Bike+ at Costco this Christmas at a discount, but you have to assemble and install yourself. Don't think you can use HSA for that. The HSA is on the website when you checkout I believe. FWIW, I highly recommend the Bike+. Keeps me motivated to workout and try to up my numbers.

They also have auto resistance if you do PZ rides (I do PZ rides but still like to change the resistance myself). Sorry @paco, but my advice is it is worth upgrading.

Where my wife works, that’s how it works. Health insurance is a percentage of pay. So an executive pays more for health insurance than a lower level employee. They still have tiers based on if it’s individual, you and spouse, or family, but it’s still percentage based.

I'm only half-joking, but maybe they should make your monthly premium be something like half the amount of minutes and seconds it takes you to run a mile. Can you run a mile in 5 minutes flat? Pay $250 a month. Run in 6.5 minutes? Pay $375. It takes your fatbutt 18 minutes to "run" a mile? Pay $900 a month. You could substitute other good cardio sports, like swimming, in there as well.
