Diehardfan
Quote Wawa to close 2 Center City Philadelphia locations due to continued safety concerns Maggie Kent, 6abc 5-6 minutes Skip to content This story originally appeared on 6abc Wawa is closing two Center City Philadelphia stores because of "continued safety and security challenges and business factors,” according to a statement from the company. The beloved convenience store chain says it is closing stores at 12th and Market streets and 19th and Market streets. A spokesperson said, "All associates from these two stores will be offered continued employment at Wawa. These two closures do not necessarily impact or limit the potential for future stores in Philadelphia County. We continue to be focused on doing everything we can to monitor.” WHYY thanks our sponsors — become a WHYY sponsor "It’s getting worse, it’s getting worse. I don’t even understand why they keep doing this. It doesn’t make any sense,” said customer Virginia Carrington of West Philadelphia. Related Content Customers of the Wawa on 36th and Chestnut streets are frustrated after hearing that five women are wanted for stealing and hurting a female employee early Thursday morning. "I heard they pepper sprayed the employees that worked at Wawa. The city is just out of control at the moment,” said Alfie Coker of South Philadelphia. Incidents like one last month when nearly 100 juveniles ransacked a Mayfair Wawa, encouraged City Councilman Michael Driscoll’s office to make contact with Wawa corporate. "We wanted them to know we were there for them we were there to help,” said Driscoll. Driscoll now said he fears for the future of Wawa in Philadelphia if violent or dangerous incidents continue to happen at stores. WHYY thanks our sponsors — become a WHYY sponsor "My concern is any business that experiences something like this may change their business model,” he said. Related Content Wawa has adjusted and cut overnight hours at several stores and closed others completely in recent years. Regarding the closures of Market street Wawa stores, a spokesperson said, "These closures do not diminish in any way our on-going commitment to serve the Philadelphia community or our acknowledgment of the effort and support we continue to receive from local police. It is our hope to repurpose these two locations to further benefit Philadelphia.” "We are very sorry we can’t be there for our friends and neighbors at these two locations, but we continue to serve the community from our other nearby stores and our commitment to the greater region remains strong. Philadelphia is our hometown and that’s something that will never change.” The City says it’s working with business owners to understand their concerns. "The Night Time Economy Director has launched a listening tour that would publicly engage large and small companies that operate after 5 p.m. in Philadelphia.” https://whyy.org/articles/wawa-closing-center-city-philadelphia-shutting-down-philly/ City has turned to crap.

Diehardfan
City will always vote Dem, but there is a primary. It's unreal people are putting up with this. 4 minutes ago, iladelphxx said: They have considered halting all planned construction in the entire city, not just Center City. https://www.bizjournals.com/philadelphia/news/2022/10/12/wawa-seriously-reconsidering-philadelphia-plans.html If the police tried to stop that the DA would probably charge them

It's going to get worse, because the super left progressives are now running as 3rd party under the "Working Families Party" and are getting more votes than the Republicans, so the R At Large Council Seats are going away. Pretty soon, Council is probably only going to have 1 or no Republicans on it. The Republican Party in the City of Philadelphia is dead.... has been for years. I'm sorry that Repubs are such a festering sheet show that no one in any city in the country will give them a look. They should be less sheety. Honestly. I mean that. Cities need divergent points of view, but national Repubs are such disasters that no one with half a brain would ever pull the lever for them, which rules out the cities. They should correct that.

I've only been to Philly a couple times since I was a kid. If it's anything like Atlanta though, most of the people that act like the city's a hellhole live in the country and are basing everything off the news. People like me that live in the city love it. Humans shitting or pissing on the ground Humans Fing on the subway deck Cops telling us not to stand too close to the subways cause people are being pushed to the tracks more often. Someone snorting lines and smoking crack in broad day light usually some type of major crime investigation. (it was armed car jacking last week) shops boarded up, or closed ATV's driving wildly up and down the streets O and outside a small area in the city, dont you dare try to have lunch/dinner outside lol It's because the population is dumb, thats why. Yeah, that video of the five guys jumping out of the van in Germantown with AKs was nuts. There is no reason for others to make it a GOP vs Dem debate. Rendell and Street never let things rise to this level. Things are out of control and unless people are insane it should be an issue we all agree on. Fact is, most people that aren't addicted to Fox News have a really hard time pulling the lever for Republicans because they're a national embarrassment without serious intentions. But like I said, I wish they weren't. One-party rule leads to ruin, no matter what party it is. It's why places like West VA/KY/Miss are all piles of sheet on the federal dole, control is too consolidated. That's a problem. And it's why people are always urging Dems to improve their outreach to rural America. Unfortunately, no one ever tells the Republicans to improve their outreach to the city, but they should because they've been miserable failures in that area. 1

The vast majority of non-Fox News/talk radio addicted Americans have a really hard time voting Republican. There definitely are some that do it anyway for the tax cuts, but you know it's not easy for them because the national Republican Party is such a disgusting joke. Quote On top of that, after the last year or so, and what we've seen in Cali, the boarder, the crime and everything else I'm fairly sure its about 60% voting for red. Tell me you're one of the Fox News/talk radio addicted Americans without telling me your one of the Fox News/talk radio addicted Americans. Quote At the end of the day, It still shocks me that someone can see the people of Philly, see the type of people they are, see how **** the city is and say, YEA, i need to align my political views with those folks I guess when they see what a federally dependent, meth riddled, depressing sheet show WVA/KY/Miss are, they realize that it can always get worse.
Steve 17
Drop the stupid BS that Dem's suck or Rep's suck...... They all suck if they're not actively working to make the area they represent better. Try voting according to that theory rather than some stupid ideal of what a political party is.

The problem of inner cities becoming unlivable hell-holes with brazen violent crime is uniquely due to one party and one party only, though. Yeah sure, Republicans suck, too, but democrats are the ones that implement soft on crime policies that result in widespread violence. They own this one.
