Wolf won because he was running against a guy who thought Trump wasn't crazy and racist enough.

It really is a microcosm of how completely screwed we are as a nation. We have a party of racist imbeciles, and the other option is a party that rejects any basic understanding of human behavior and incentive structures while tripling down on completely failed ideas.

So happy not to have children. Yes, there are other reasons too.

Over the Easter weekend we spent time with my wife's mother. She's worried about our kids and what kind of country we are leaving for them. Can't say I blame her.

We still have a republican legislature in PA, so this dopey tax plan will never pass, but it just shows what a doofus Wolf is. He ran as a "business man" but his only shrewd business move has been to come off as rational and sane compared to the loons he ran against. He can't run again in 2022, so it'll be fun to see what we have to choose from next year.

I feel like what gets lost in a lot of the talk today is that it's all just about jobs, really. "It's the economy, stupid!" If you create jobs and increase wealth, you expand the tax base and increase revenue. At best, a plan like this is merely putting a band-aid on a much bigger problem, but I don't think that problem can be effectively tackled at the state level.

also because he was preceded by Tom Corbett, a generally reviled PA governor.

Thank god.  There needs to be checks and balance.  Only gripe I have with the republican legislature is they are still way too old school on marijuana.  They block all legalization attempts despite every state around us going the other way.

That's what Wolf ran on and how he got elected. He was the businessman that was going to create jobs and growth. I just never really saw much of that. Granted I was in NC for most of his first term. Corbett was so horrible in every way, I think people were willing to give him a shot. PA generally doesn't elect governors from the same party back to back. So it'll probably be a republican who replaces him. Wikipedia has some scary names on potential candidates. One of them is Donald Trump JR. who doesn't even live here. No I'm not kidding...

Fetterman going for Senate.  He is the biggest proponent for legalization.  Kenney can F right off.  Hate that dude.

I can't really remember a philly mayor I was fond of.  The city is just such a cesspool of wasted spending and they keep finding new ways to tax businesses and people out of it.  Nice boom in the burbs though.  Especially if you own a house.  Between Philly flight and the Lehigh Valley boom I'm sitting pretty.

Rendell was the mayor when I lived in the city (4 years of college). He wasn't horrible.

Rendell was ok.  I got Fing smashed at an Eagles game quite a few years ago and had box seats right by his.  Got my picture with him in my drunken stupor.  He wasn't mayor or gov at that point.

Kenney sucks. For the Dems it'll probably be Shapiro.

Street and Good were both worse.

Rendell and Nutter were the 2 best. Nutter was probably better than Rendell. Growth boomed under Nutter and the city got cleaner and safer.

close 2nds IMO, but then again, i admit kenney being in office now is probably pushing him to the top. just so many bad mayors to choose from.

Street got reelected when he was under indictment. He funneled hundreds of thousands of dollars into his brothers phony business. They didn't even try to cover it up. Budget line items by the tens of thousands were going to "NOTLIM Industries" (Street's brother's name is Milton. Fiendishly clever I know). They both should have gone to prison.

And of course Goode bombed the city.

seriously. I'm going to have to start driving in to the dirty jerz just to get my medicine.

Honestly I think Bartleta would be a half decent choice.

If anyone’s interested starts April 20th.

‘Philly D.A.’ offers look at impact of justice system

"Philly D.A.” premieres April 20 with back-to-back episodes beginning at 9 p.m. and then continues weekly at 9 p.m. Tuesdays through May. The series is also available for on-demand viewing through the PBS Video app. Submitted

Fred Vigeant - WITF

PBS’ documentary anthology series Independent Lens brings the highly anticipated "Philly D.A.” eight-part series to WITF later this month. The docuseries takes you into the office of Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner as he and his team work to transform the criminal justice system.

Filmmakers Ted Passon and Yoni Brook embedded themselves in the district attorney’s office on a near daily basis for the last three years. This unfiltered access captures Krasner’s dramatic first year in office and documents the day-to-day struggles.

In addition, "Philly D.A.” also takes to the streets of neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia and into the lives of people who are directly impacted by the decisions made downtown. Each episode moves back and forth between the D.A.’s office and personal stories from those affected, including those currently incarcerated, victims of crime, political opponents, activists and concerned residents.

PA is going to lose another Congressional seat. This is the tenth consecutive census in which PA has lost representation. Oh well, at least Pennsyltucky will play less of a factor in Presidential elections.

Gov. Wolf promises to veto bill banning transgender athletes from womens sports.

As he should. This bill will be government overreach, solving a problem that doesn’t exist, except in deranged conservative minds.

Truly a man of the people.

Backstory: LINK  Some state congressman is sending nonsensical requests on official letterhead. LINK  Fetterman did his best to mock it.

a supreme court seat is up for grabs in pa today.  get out there & vote for maria mclaughlin!  her opponent is a repug trump stooge named kevin brobson who will try to steal elections for the repugs.

vote against all the repug stooges today!  :flex:

I guess there's some ballot measure to extend terms for judges? My wife said republicans were harassing her to vote yes on it (from inside the polls which I thought was illegal). If the republicans are for it, I'll vote no.

One of the reasons I'm considering switching to mail-in voting is that when my wife voted she could take her time and actually understand who she was voting for without being harassed.

I still vote in person, but being able to have your laptop open while filling out the ballot without cross referencing your phone seems really nice.
