Did Dan Baker have a stroke or develop Bell's Palsey?

I know he had cancer surgery a few years ago, but his face and voice is obviously affected

https://6abc.com/philadelphia-phillies-dan-baker-cancer-pa-announcer/10768068/

Doctors discovered an irregular growth, which turned out to be a cancerous tumor in his sinus. It required a 24-hour surgery to remove. He was then hit with an infection due to complications and was in the hospital for six weeks.

Doctors took bone tissue from his leg and transplanted it in his face.

On top of radiation, the surgery slightly affected, of all things, his speech. He needed therapy, but now he's back at the ballpark and back in mid-season form.

Harper Homer! 18 of 21 homers have been Han Solo

Wheeler is dealing and though the Phillies don't have many hits, at least 3 of them are solo HRs.  Wonder if Wheeler gets a CG and gives the BP a day of rest?  So far he's only at 67 pitches through 6 IP.  He could finish the game in under 100 pitches.  Would be nice to see a CG SO vs the Mets.  Kind of a kick them when they're down moment.

I really don't watch baseball until the playoffs (if that).....watching the game today, Wheeler really is incredible.  Reminds me of Cliff Lee (when he was good) with greater velocity.....

Dodgers vs. Phillies pitching matchups

scherzer vs nola

price vs. gibson

urias vs. Suarez

Tough decision to make here with Wheeler.  Would be nice to get the BP a rest but you want to win the game.

He is under 100 pitches and still throwing upper 90's. I say go for the complete game.

Wheelers gotta be on the short list for Cy Young consideration this season, now that DeGrom went down

This team is SCORCHING HOT.

You called it

CG SO for Wheeler on 108 pitches with only 2 hits (both by Nimmo) and 1 BB while K'ing 11.  That's kind of slamming the door in the Mets face after telling them they can't come in.  Good.

Also, Mets came into this series in 1st place and very well could be leaving in 3rd place.  Braves lead the Nats 5-3 in the 8th and they'd jump ahead of the Mets with a W.

He had exactly one, 2-0 count all game. Absolutely dominant.

I'm going to have to send a message to my Mets fan friend on FB. Time to rub it in a bit.

Wow, Phils are gettin' it done...

That's awesome!  Wish I could have watched.  All I could do was follow along thru a web browser.

On the day they retired Doc’s number - what a performance by Wheeler

This run has really been impressive. Have to avoid the catastrophic collapse of the last two seasons now.

I'm kicking myself for not loading up on this

We have a 2.0 lead over the Braves after they beat the Nats.  Mets are 2.5 GB.

Here's how the rest of the month series go for each team:

Phillies       LAD       CIN          @ARI         @SD               TB (2)          ARI (4)       @WSH

Braves       CIN      @WSH       @MIA        @BTL             NYY (2)       SF               @LAD

Mets          WSH       LAD         @SF          @LAD (4)       SF                WSH           MIA

So we get 4 winning teams out of 7, but vs TB is only a 2 game set, and we get 7 games vs the worst team in MLB.  We also get 12 home games and 9 away.  Phillies 34-21 at home for +13 at home and -7 away.

Braves also get 4 winning teams out of 7 and only 8 home games vs 12 away.  Braves are +1 game over .500 both home/away.

Mets get each of WSH, LAD, and SF twice.  They do get 5 of 7 series at home, though, for a 15 home to 7 away advantage.  Mets are +13 at home and -12 on the road.

Pointed this out the other day before the Mets series. Phillies need to get through the next 17 games because after that they have 36 games left and only 9 against winning teams (3 at brewers, 3 vs. Mets and 3 at Braves). Really if the Phillies during this 17 game stretch just go 10-7 they should have a really good chance to win the division.

However they need to stop dropping like flies. Odubel was out with Achilles soreness today. Mccutchen, didi and rhys already out. They need them cause the offense can’t just rely on 3 guys to just stay hot and carry for over a month and a half.

Well, they're off to a 3-0 start so now they just need to go 7-7 in your scenario.  And if they can win one of the series (2 out of 3 games) at home vs LAD or CIN and the one away vs the DBacks then they'd only need to go 3-5 in the other series.  The next series vs LAD will be a good test for them on an 8 game hot streak vs a really good team.

I wouldn't be surprised if after our 2 games series vs TB that the Braves are in 1st with us close behind and the Mets have drifted into a distant 3rd setting up a 2 team race to the finish.

The 2007 team was missing Utley otherwise I think they could have done some damage in the playoffs.
