He never really adjusted to how teams began pitching to him and his decline due to age. The issue to me he’s fine if we platoon him with marsh (albeit he hasn’t hit LHP well either) but as an everyday starter basically getting Castellanos with a better glove and somewhat better power. They needed more than Garcia especially when paying Castellanos $20 mil to go away and Garcia (i think it is) $10 mil + luxury tax. Basically paying 30+ mil for better defensive version of Castellanos with potentially similar bat

16 hours ago16 hr Need to can Kevin Long. His approach with guys isn’t working and everyone besides Harper and Crawford don’t hit consistently. Marsh still can’t hit lefties and everyone else is dreadful. It is likely a problem whether he’s here or not, but at least if you get a new voice, maybe it sparks them because somebody lost their job due to their lousy performance. Move should’ve been made last offseason (really after Mets playoff loss). Likely what fails this team anyway but there’s no point in having a hitting coach that can’t seem to get through to guys nor fix issues.
