Kris Bryant to Colorado Rockies

At least he plays in colts where his numbers should jump. Too bad he’s going to be stuck in a purgatory of a team. they dealt away arenado last year to just sign Bryant this year.

Phillies weren’t touching that. Deservedly so.

I'm so happy for Kris Bryant and his descendants that he was able to leverage the Phillies interest into a huge payday from the Rockies.

Good for him. Not so good for the Phillies.

What's next?

Castellanos? Conforto?

Lots of free agents left.

Lets see what Dombroski can do.

Not sure what else they can do. They are roughly 10 million under the luxury tax threshold. Not much you can do with that unless there is some trade in the works. They may be saving that 10 million for a trade deadline piece.

That’s what I’m guessing. Flexibility for trade deadline moves. They probably make a couple minor signings to bolster the bench and starting pitching staff (couple million each) but that’s it.

All in all, pretty uninspiring offseason. BP still an unknown, line up improved, but who knows how much, and the SP staff is also a big question mark. Can Nola return to form? Can Eflin stay healthy? Can Suarez and Gibson repeat better than average seasons?

So, I am wondering how it is okay for some teams, like LAD Dodgers signing Freeman, to go over Luxury Tax Threshold.

And why the Phillies choose to remain under the Luxury Tax Threshold. An attempt to protect profits, I assume.

MLB 2022 Luxury Tax Tracker | Spotrac

So, I googled it. Found a real time tracker on Spotrac.

Not sure how accurate this is or frequency of or latest data refresh.

NOTE1: ATL braves won World Series under the threshold.

NOTE2: NYM Mets are spending big right now.

Defense is still awful.  No real improvement there.

Arguably worse with Schwarber in left

Sign Trevor Story +12.9 Defensive Runs.

Move Didi to 3b. Or Stott to 3b. Or sign mid level vet.

Bohm?

Vierling played 25 games at 3b for Notre Dame back in 2018?

They’re not going over the luxury tax. Better to give those dreams up now.

i truly look forward to watching this team lose games because of bad defense. its becoming a tradition.

.500 at best

I hate being negative but the only way this team is going to compete for a title the next 2-3 years is if they go over that luxury tax. Their farm system and player development isn’t where it needs to be to push them into a contender role without overspending for the next couple years . Frankly i think 2 years from now when wheeler is on the decline, realmuto likely on the decline that they’ll realize they need to do a rebuild and begin tearing it down again.

Just thinking out loud...

Did the Colorado Rockies sign Kris Bryant to a mega deal so that they can turn around and flip him for prospects at the trade deadline this year or next?

Rockies don't look like they are really going to compete.

What's the point in signing Kris Bryant at $27Mil per year?

Gotta sell tickets? Gonna sell some jerseys?

Yeah i made that point yesterday. Might not be this year but definitely within the next 2 years i see then using him as a trade chip to get prospects. His numbers are going to be inflated by coors and they aren’t going anywhere in that division with the padres, giants and dodgers way ahead of him.

If they got castellanos I’d let schwarber and hoskins platoon at first. and the other DHs when not playing first.

I was kinda hoping we get a 3rd basemen and let Bohm DH or get rid of Bohm.

Tbh I’m open to that too. I’m also open to trading hoskins and getting a good starter or a good outfielder.

Between Hoskins, Castellanos, Schwarber and Harper, there are a lot of options between LF, RF, 1B and DH.

Hoskins can DH and 1B

Schwarber can LF and 1B

Castellanos can LF and RF

Harper can RF and DH

It is being reported that Talks are progressing with

Nick Castellanos;

will this signing put us in the Luxury Tax? Or will we have the money to sign a Short Stop?
