Curious to see how they respond tomorrow. Cause i actually think Valdez has better stuff than verlander at this stage of his career. 5 runs is very likely too much to overcome. So I’d just try to see if we could get the offense going a little. Let nola just go til he gets to 100 pitches.

Yep, just keep Nola in unless they somehow get a few runs back here. If they can get 2 or 3 across, then you maybe consider going to the pen to try to keep Houston at 5.

Nola clearly didn’t have it. Couldn’t hit first pitch strikes and wouldn’t challenge hitters with fastballs up high.

See you game 2.

What’s annoying is he did look like he had it for the first two hitters. After the walk, suddenly he started to fall apart.

Oh well.  Just not on Houston’s level clearly.

Yeah i think they were trying to pitch around Alvarez like they were afraid to pitch to him. I wouldn’t have done that with no one on and 2 outs. I’d have attacked him. If he gets a hit or a solo homer it’s 1 run. But I’m not putting the thought in my pitcher’s head he can’t get this guy in any situation or he’s not good enough. Feels like when you start doing that then you start messing with Nola’s psyche.

At least we won’t be no hit

pitching not good enough, that's got to be the main priority in the offseason, i dont care unload nola, he's not a good pitcher, he's the reason why we almost blew the playoffs.

He’s been great for the most part.  But I agree they need to get another good starter if they want to get back here next year.

At least the lineup remembered how to get the barrel on the ball.

Haskins not scoring is pathetic

The issue with getting back next year is that all their big, streaky bats got white hot at the same time.  That’s a once per window kind of thing in baseball.

Regardless, the most room for improvement is to add the best starter possible.

They really should make painter the 5th starter and Suarez the 4. Go after Bauer or degrom.  Bauer is risky due to everything that happened with him but likely get him on a one year cheap deal and if he still has it then that’s a massive addition. I’d say degrom but he’s older and likely going to atlanta. if he doesn’t re-sign with the Mets. Issue is the SP class in FA is not good outside of degrom, Bauer and verlander who’s going back to Houston.

This freaking team.

Castellanos and Bohm! Need those guys to heat up.

i swear if nola was an ace like wheeler we would be making the playoffs the last 3 years.

Just as I was getting ready to relax for the rest of the night.

If Nola had gotten an out against the automatic out in their lineup, we are probably winning this game right now.

But he’s not an ace and he didn’t get the out.

Hes a quality rotation piece.

Stott might not always get a hit but he always has really quality at bats. Hats off to that kid for being so young but really making verlander and pitchers work. Kids gonna be a stud

He’s gonna be awesome once they get him on the juice.

And leading off. If you can move schwarber to 2nd and put realmuto in between schwarber and harper it’s going really do some damage. Especially if castellanos turns it around next year batting 5th or 6 and if they add trea Turner that lineup would be absolutely insane 1-8.

Strikeout coming

that's what concerning me on how the organization sees this in the offseason that they think we need another bat and not another pitcher which we really need because if they roll with nola and wheeler again, they are not making the playoffs next year.

Idiot

Good answer.

I think the investment in bats vs pitching is interesting.  Historically, dominant pitching is more consistent and reliable.  Bats run hot and cold.

But pitchers have more Tommy John and throw less innings than ever before.

I think another starter is what this team needs the most, but these 23 year old pitchers with explosive stuff are very difficult to commit to.

2-0 hole right after a momentum changing inning.  That’s not good pitching.

Once he learns to hit the fastball he’s going to be a lethal hitter.

Anyway, I’m done doubting this team. Game isn’t over until the final out of the 9th.

If only they had a great pitching prospect waiting in the wings…

The issue is the FA market for pitchers are Bauer, degrom, verlander and rondón. Verlander is going back to Houston. Degrom reports say if he leaves the Mets it’s atlanta. I think rondón is the guy they’d go after. But I’d you miss out on him cause I’m guessing he has a big market then it’s Bauer or bust. Not sure who takes a chance on him. After that unless you are dealing for a big time pitcher. Likely hard to see that as i don’t think Bieber gets traded in the offseason. He’s likely gonna be with cleveland until the trade deadline to see where they are.

im guessing painter is very likely their 5th starter who has potential to be an ace. Suarez is likely your 3/4 starter. I think they go after someone like eovaldi or Quintana. And go big after Turner or Correa

I’d keep painter and I’d not be against dealing Abel and McGarry if they could get someone like shane Bieber
